NATURAL HAZARDS- is a naturally occurring event or phenomenon


NATURAL DISASTERS- refers a natural hazard or threat that causes fatality.
Natural process:
 Geological- landslide, tsunami, volcanic eruption
 Hydrometeorological- typhoons, floods, tropical cyclones, tornado
 Coastal- erosion, submersion, salt water intrusion

GEOLOGIC HAZARDS – the processes that shaped the earth continually act
on or beneath the surface
EARTHQUAKE it is located in pacific ring of belt making it prone to earthquake
(IT IS SOMETIME CALLED CIRCUM PACIFIC BELT)
RICHTER SCALE- is a scale of a number used to tell the size of an
earthquakes.
 Charles Richter developed Richter scale in 1935
 Logarithmic with a base of 10

EARTHQUAKE- (also known as a quake, tremor, tremblor) it is the shaking of


the surface of the earth.
Micro Less than 2.0
very minor 2.0 to 2.9
Minor 3.0 to 3.9
Light 4.0 to 4.9
Moderate 5.0 to 5.9
Strong 6.0 to 6.9
Major 7.0 to 7.9
Great 8.0 to 9.9
