DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
FIRST SEMESTER 2022/2023 ACADEMIC SESSION
CEC 213 PRACTICAL REPORT
Instructions:
Section A
Should be answered in a single workbook (The title should be your Registration Number, Example
NCET-5555) with each practical on a separate worksheet (the title of which should be the
Practical….. followed by its number. Example Question 1 should be titled Practical 1)
Section B
You are to use RCC spreadsheets
You have been taught how to title your RCC spreadsheets during our lectures.
Any design parameters not given in the questions should be provided by you based on standard
values not guess work
Submission should be a softcopy sent to cadpracticals@gmail.com, subject of the email should be
your registration number. Deadline is 12 noon 30th April, 2023.

Section A
1. The results of a standard Proctor test are given in the table below. Using excel spreadsheet
calculate the dry densities and plot the compaction curve. Volume of mould is 0.0096 𝑚3 .
Mass of wet soil in the mould (kg) 1.48 1.88 2.12 1.82 1.65
Moisture content (%) 8.4 10.2 12.3 14.6 16.8

2. Plot the graph of the quadratic function,𝑦 = 𝑥 2 − 4. Take x from -3 to 3.

3. Draw a simple picture of the one storey frame shown below and label the joints
4. Draw the power transmission frame shown below, it consists of 21 lines and 12 joints. The joint
coordinates are tabulated below:

Section B

1. Design the floor slab of a bar spanning 5.4 by 6m. Consider the slab as simply supported
with a thickness of 0.2m.
2. Design a staircase for an office building using the following. The effective span (b) is 3.6
m and the rise of the stairs is 1.8 m, with 260 mm treads and 150 mm risers. The total
length, L (5.4m), the landings are 750mm in length and the flight waist is 150mm. Tensile
strength of reinforcement as 250 𝑁/𝑚𝑚2 .
3. Design the T-beam section shown below for a continuous beam of 6 spans with maximum
span of 6m. The compressive strength of concrete and tensile strength of reinforcement is
30 and 460 𝑁/𝑚𝑚2 respectively.
