5 Love Languages of God (SS)

God’s Love Languages

We know that God loves us

(John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.)

and that God IS love

1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.(NIV)

God has also written a book about “love languages” — the Bible!

It is the purest and clearest revelation of what love really is.

So what might be God’s love languages to us?  We’ll define five, from God’s Book, that
are similar to those in Gary Chapman’s book.

God’s love languages include, but are not limited to,

acts of service (His works),
words of affirmation (His Word and Promises),
gift giving (His grace),
touch (His “hugs”),

and quality time (His presence).

Do you know your love language?

How do you like to show your love?

Generally when someone expresses their love with a particular love language, they also
like to receive love in that same language.

We will look at how God gives love, and then discuss how he expects up to reciprocate
that love using the same love language.

QUALITY TIME (His presence)
There has never been a time when God was not alive or was not present with us.

pg. 1
In fact he let’s us know that NOTHING can separate us from his Love in

Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor
demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither
height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(NIV)

He also promised us that there is nowhere we can go to hide from his presence.

Psalm 139:7-9
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths,
you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far
side of the sea,(NIV)

Psalm 139:10-12
even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If
I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night
around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will
shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.(NIV)

There is not a place on this earth where Jesus is not there.

He is with us always because His Holy Spirit indwells us.

And, He has promised that He will never leave or forsake us (Heb 13:5).

Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have,
because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."(NIV)

It is not only that He is present, He is always interceding on our behalf and waiting on
our every prayer.

He is unlike any other friend because He is there whenever we need Him and will spend
as much time as we need.

pg. 2
Our heart’s longing should be to seek His presence, to be aware of His presence, and
to respond to His presence.

Part Two

Quality Time

The next love language up for discussion is Quality Time. Throughout the Bible we find

many examples of quality time being carried out in the Bible. Just in the life of Jesus with

His disciples would be a great example of this.

1. Jesus traveled to many quality places with the disciples.

He went numerous times to Jerusalem.

He went to the countryside.

He went to the other side of the Jordan.

He went to region of the Sea of Galilee.

He traveled to Tyre and Sidon.

He even traveled to the land of the Samaritans.

2. Jesus had many quality activities with the disciples.

He prayed with them.

He had meals with them.

He went mountain hiking with them.

He went fishing with them.

He carried out miracles before them.

They did mission work together.

3. Jesus shared many quality lessons with the disciples.

He taught them in parables.

He taught them with situations that arose.

He taught them through example.

Jesus was close to the disciples because He spent three and a half years of quality time

with them. The church is also to be spending quality time together. The early saints

shared quality time together.

pg. 3
Hebrews 13:5

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."(NIV)

Romans 12:12-13

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need.
Practice hospitality.(NIV)

Quality Time

The main drive of those who’s love language is “quality time” is the need to spend
time together with the people that they love.

This time needs to be purposeful, such as doing an activity together.

We can spend time with God through prayer, meditation, reading, journaling, or going
to the Church to participate in different ministries.

The Lord is with us at all times, he tells us that “he is always with us” (Isaiah 41:10)
and this shold bring us confidence in who he is. Because he never leaves our side, we
can turn any opportunity to connect with God.

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and
help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.(NIV)

God wants us to spend quality time with Him.

God desires that we dedicate at least part of our day with Him; one-on-one; just YOU and GOD
alone.

You see if you love someone whether it’s your child, girlfriend or husband, you always want to
spend time with them.

Luke 5:16 NKJV

So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

pg. 4
How often do you spend time with God?

There was nobody who was as busy as Jesus during the time when He was physically living in
the earth.

Multitudes of people wanted to be around Him and with Him for various reasons during His
ministry.

Yet despite the attention that was demanded of Him by the people who followed Him, Jesus
always found time to spend some quiet time with God the Father.

Jesus would withdraw from the people often so that He could spend some one-on-one quiet time
with the Father.

Matthew 14:23 NKJV

And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to
pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.

There are so many distractions out there in our ordinary day such that if we are not careful, we
can seize to have any time alone with God.

You can never be too busy for God. Jesus would DELIBERATELY MAKE TIME for God the
Father so that He could be alone with the Father to pray.

The scriptures say Jesus “sent the multitudes away” (Matthew 14:23) and that Jesus
also “often withdrew” from the crowds in order to pray and spend time with the Lord (Luke
5:16).

So Jesus MADE time despite the demands of the day to spend time with the Father.
Are you consciously telling yourself in your mind that you are too busy for God?

Be like Jesus – MAKE time. Withdraw temporarily from the things that would take your time
away from God.
Be like Jesus – FIND a quiet place to spend time with God.

God loves you and He wants to spend time with you too.

A relationship is two-way; it requires both parties to participate.

If you want to know God more, then you need to spend more time with Him.

If you want to hear His voice, then you need to make time for Him.

James 4:8 NKJV
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…
