Case ID: Case Type: Section:

VMED4A Granadozin and Santillana Musculoskeletal Clinicians:

Time Stamp: Title: Radiographic Study of Unilateral Avascular Femoral Head

04/20/2023 Necrosis of the left Femur

PATIENT DETAILS

Patient: Tinee Beanie Species: Canine Age: 4 years old

Breed: Shih Tzu Sex: M
PERTINENT CLINICAL HISTORY
The patient was brought for second opinion on its limping.

RADIOGRAPHIC FINDINGS
SAMPLE:

Orthogonal views of the hips are available for interpretation.

There is marked divergence of both coxofemoral joints and evident flattening of the craniolateral
acetabular rims, worse on the left.

There is moderate deformation and heterogenous osteolytic areas of the left femoral head.

A significant periosteal reaction is present in the left acetabulum.

There is a mild loss of muscle mass suspected of the left pelvic limb.

The spine and the rest of the osseous structures appear to be within normal limits.
RADIOGRAPHIC IMPRESSION
SAMPLE:
The radiographic findings are suggestive of unilateral Avascular Femoral Head Necrosis of the left Femur
in the early stage of the disease with secondary disuse muscle atrophy of the left pelvic limb. Both hips are
also consistent with mild Hip Dysplasia.

RECOMMENDATION
SAMPLE:
If lameness does not resolve with medical management (e.g, analgesics, Ehmer sling), surgical intervention
may be indicated (e.g., Femoral head ostectomy) to improve mobility and quality of life.
