BE A HERO WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR SAFETY

When we hear the word hero, what comes first in our minds? Most people
would probably say batman, superman, ironman and a whole lot of man which
are all fictional characters. But in actuality, how can a normal human being be
able to become a realistic hero even in the simplest ways?

We all know that vulnerability is a state of being at risk. And that the
conditions are determined by physical, social, economic and environmental
factors or processes which increase the susceptibility of an individual, a
community, assets or systems to the impacts of hazards. Disasters are inevitable.
Dread it, run from it, disasters arrive all the same. However, one can be
considered a hero when it comes to his/her safety through five easy yet effective
ways in alleviating the effects of disaster. First, to be smart online, which means
efficiently using your time in browsing the internet to learn different kinds of
things associated with Disaster readiness and risk reduction. Second, to have a
plan to counteract and overcome all sorts of disasters. Third, to speak up, to
spread awareness on how to deal before, during and after disasters through
social media or physical signs. Fourth and fifth, recognize when you feel unsafe
and be alert since catastrophes are chaotic and do not discriminate. Remember
that when disaster strikes, the time to prepare has already passed.
