Dear Hiring Manager,

My name is Leah Platt. I am a student at the University of South Florida majoring in Environmental
Science and Policy and a minor in biology, graduating in the summer of 2023. I found the posting
for the position of a Water Resources Scientist through Indeed. I enjoy meeting new people and
working with a diverse group of people to achieve the common goal of conserving and restoring
land. I am inspired by WSP’s commitment to provide a forward relationship with employees.
Working to better the environment and assist those in compliance with regulations has always
been something I find extremely interesting and important. I have completed an internship at my
local power company where I tested soil, diesel fuel, coal, and water. I focused primarily on soil
and fuel sources, testing for BTU value, sulfur, CHN, ash, volatile, moisture content, and mercury
levels to ensure they were within federal regulation limits. I have collected water from various
sources around the power plant to be tested. To further my knowledge in environmental science,
I moved to the wastewater department for the City of Lakeland where I was also able to gather
samples and conduct a variety of tests involving water from industrial and commercial facilities,
residential, and overflow areas. Much of my time has been spent in a laboratory or based around
lab activities, it is something I am confident in my ability to meet and exceed expectations.
I am eager to learn and develop relationships while maintaining quality work. If given the
opportunity, I would love to bring my experience and knowledge that I have acquired as well as
continue to learn and grow with your company.
