GLAD Pictorial Input Charts

2nd and 3rd Grades

Objective
After trainings, observations and feedback, teachers will incorporate the
use of pictorial input charts in their classrooms. At least 70% of students
will score 70 % on their Science and Social Studies assessments.

Discuss objective and the reason for this presentation.

I know many of you had questions about
implementing GLAD after our trainings.
My goal is to support you in your use of
GLAD pictorial input charts to aide in
English Language Development.

Discuss our prior trainings and talk about what we liked and disliked.
Through pictorial input charts we will develop
academic language among second and third grade
students. This strategy will benefit all students, but
specifically our English Learners.

Discuss goals and what the teachers would like to get out of this training/my support.

Ways that GLAD can help your students:
● The use of language in action-whether through expressive, situational or
productive register such as speaking and writing.
● Language in process through grammatical and lexical resources influenced by
context
● GLAD uses sensory supports (specifically visual) to make subject matter more
accessible
● GLAD uses graphic supports to organize information in ways students can digest

Magnets
We will be teaching our students
about magnets GLAD Pictorial
Input chart. This aligns perfectly
with our Science unit on
Balancing Forces.

Show them how GLAD can relate to our science curriculum on magnets.
Language Arts
Pictorial Input Chart

GLAD Pictorials can be used


for subjects other than
science. I used GLAD to
review one of Aesopʼs
fables. GLAD acts as a
graphic organizer for the
story.

Show them how GLAD can relate to social studies that is embedded in our ELA
curriculum.
Teachers will use a learning log to check for
understanding after each lesson.
