LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

Section and Time:

Learning Infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur Level 7
Competency
Quarter 3
Learning Knowledge: : Describe the heat transfer through radiation Week 9
Objectives No.
Skills: Trace the flow of heat by radiation;
Attitudes: cite the significance of radiation on earth Day 1

Topic RADIATION Duration:

60 minutes
Resources Needed Candle, candle holder, match
PROCEDURE:
Element of
Suggested Activities
the Plan
Awareness
Ask the students the following questions:
1. Describe the air surrounding the flame of the candle. (it is warm)
2. What is the direction of warm air? (it rises)
3. Recall convection and conduction

Activity Divide the students into groups

Distribute 1 candle in each group and instruct them to perform only as instructed
Procedure: (activity will be perform simultaneously as instructed by the teacher)
1. Lit the candle and place it on area visible to every member of the group.
2. Allow every member of the group to put their hands facing their palms at the side
near the candle. Did you feel warm? (yes)

3. Reverse their hand, now facing the back side.

4. Illustrate the direction of heat transfer by radiation.
5. Each group of students shall be given equal time to share their answer on the
questions below

Questions:
1. What did you feel when you place your hand at the side near the candle? ( warm)
2. If warm air rises, where does heat that you feel comes from? (The heat that comes
from the light of he candle radiating to the hands.)
3. Do radiations require a medium to transfer?(no)
4. Explain the picture below:
(The heat energy from the sun reaches earth through radiation
across the empty space
Analysis How does bonfire provide heat to the campers?
The bonfire radiates heat energy that warmth the people surrounding it.

Abstraction What is radiation?

 It is a mode of heat transfer that does not require objects to be touching with one
another (conduction) or movement of particles (convection).
 It refers to the transfer of heat from a radiating particle of a source.

Application How radiation does affect creatures on earth?

Radiation of heat from the sun to the earth provides warmth that makes life possible.

Assessment Identify the transfer of heat by radiation in the picture below

Assignment Explain briefly:

How does radiation of heat from the sun relate to global warming and greenhouse effect?
