Morphology/Semantics Activity

By Bianca Hernandez
For this assignment the youth group I
decided to observe was my daughter
and her friends. My daughter is 14
years old and I had her invite three
friends over for an evening in our home.
“Girl Bye”

It was used between my

daughter and her friend Alex. Alex
said she wanted to go out with a boy
named Julian. My daughter then
said, “girl bye.
Girl bye is a term used to dismiss
a comment.
“Bussin”
I made the girls enchiladas and her friends said
that my food was “bussin”

Bussin is the new way for saying really good or

cool.
“Lit”
Definition of lit is when someplace was
really fun.

It was used when one of the girls was

talking about her day at Knotts Berry
Farm.

“ knotts was so lit”

Boujee/Bougie
It is the short version of the word word
bourgeoisie and it is used to describe
someone of high class. Usually it is used
for someone rich, But the younger
generation uses it to mock someone
trying to give off the image of being
wealthy.
“Salty”
This was my favorite since it
reminded me of someone's expression
when something is really salty.

Salty in the urban dictionary is when

you are upset over something little.

One of the girls was bothered that she

was not able to go to Knotts, my
daughter told her to stop being salty.
“ On Fleek”
On fleek is the new way on saying very
good.

I had my eyebrows done. One of the girls

said my eyebrows were “on fleek.”
“Savage”
Savage is a term not only did i hear the
day my daughter had her friends over.
But i hear it all the time. It means
someone who is fierce, ready to fight and
not afraid of anyone.

I tend to be a very blunt person. My

daughter says, “ mom you’re savage.”
“Catch these hands”
Catch these hands means
to fight
The girls jokingly said this to
each other several times
throughout the visit.

Girl! You don’t want to catch

these hands!
Sus
Sus is a word I heard my daughter use
and now more recently my six year old
son. Sus is short for suspicious or
something that it is giving the
impression that is questionable or
dishonest. This is popular within the
younger crowds because the terms was
originated the a popular game called
among us

Aaron quit being Sus. this was my son

telling his friend on facetime via an ipad.
“SHIP”
When I think of the word ship.
I literally think of a ship in the
ocean. When I heard the girls
use it in away of making two
people a couple. It surprised
me.
To ship means when you want
to encourage two people to be
in a romantic relationship.
“We want to ship Steven and
Anais.”
Okurrr
Okurr is a way of saying
okay with sassiness and
humor. It was popularised
but drag queens. Also a
very popular rap singer
name Cardi B says it. I
heard it multiple times
throughout the day.

When they were really

excited they would say
OKURR
“Quit being extra”
Extra: adjective ; dramatic
attention grabbing too much

something that was not a big
deal to the other girls. Destiny
told her “ to quick being so
