M2 Lesson 3: Relations and Functions

Relations

A relation is a set of inputs and outputs, often written as ordered pairs (input,
output).
We can also represent a relation as a mapping diagram or a graph.
Functions
A function is a relation in which each input has only one output.
A function is a relation that does not contain two pairs with the same first
component.
A function relates each element of a set with exactly one element of another set
(possibly the same set).
A function ƒ assigns each element of x of set A to a unique element , y of set B

1. A= {(1,a), (2,b), (3,c), (4,a)}

2. B= {(1,a), (2,b), (1,c), (4,a)}
