I AM Poem

Type of lesson: Independent

Standards:
LAE: ELA.6. R.1.4 Describe the impact of various poetic forms on meaning and style
SS: SS.6.W.1.5 Describe the roles of historians and recognize varying historical and recognize
varying historical interpretations

Objectives: students will understand the impact and perspective of various historical figures.

Materials: Paper, pencils, computers

Procedures:
1. The teacher will model a sample I Am Poem and give instructions on how to create one.
2. Students will take time researching historical figures and brainstorming drafts for their
poems.
3. Students will finish and revise poems with their partner.
4. Take 5 to 10 minutes to share with the class.

Evaluation:
Students will share their poem with the class to check mastery and understanding
