1. Prior to bunkering operations vessel

 Ensure all personnel are aware of intention to bunker and emergency response procedures
Toolbox Talk held with participating personnel.
 Duty officer informed of the operation
 Potential simultaneous operations agreed with Duty Officer. Hot work operations cancelled
 Vessel draft and trim are recorded. To be used for quantity determination
 Notification of Port Authorities
 Check fenders and mooring equipment
 Check latest weather forecast
 Bunker signals raised (Signal flag “BRAVO“ or red 360° light (after nightfall))
 Prepare SOPEP and Fire fighting equipment:
 Oil absorbent material
 Buckets, brooms, shovels
 Oil dispersant chemicals
 Fire extinguishers
 Scuppers on main deck closed
 SOPEP Plan updated with latest list of the nearest national contact points to be contacted in
case of a pollution accident should be on both ships
 Check overflow tank is empty
 Written preloading plan:
 Confirmation all bunker tanks are free of water

Own Barge
2. When bunkers arrive vessel Truck

 Make sure accommodation ladder is securely in place between vessel and barge
 Establish a mutually agreed working channel and agree an emergency
communication channel
 Agree on a language of operation
 Reliable communication between bunker vessel and Barge is established, and signal
for: START, STOP, SLOW DOWN and EMERGENCY STOP are agreed upon
 Discuss a signal to slow down, stop and emergency shutdown
 Agree the maximum allowable pumping rate or pressure
 Receive an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) about the type of bunkers to be
delivered
 Discuss topping off procedures
 Sound bunker tanks NA
 Sound bunker tanks of bunker barge or truck before and after bunkering
 Open valves of bunker tank(s) and check all valves of the bunker line. Check if the
bunker valve opposite your bunker station (SB/PS) is closed.
 Check hose lifting equipment
 Inspect hoses before use (wear and tear, coupling, …)
 Inform the bridge prior to start bunkering (for bunker flag/lights and mooring lines)
 Check oil collecting drip tray: clean and drain valve closed
 Sign “No Smoking, No Hot Work, No Open Fire” to be visible at bunkering area
3. During bunkering
 Is there sufficient crew available for the bunkering operations NA
 Constant monitoring of rise of fuel in the tank NA
 Examine hose connections on vessel site for leakage NA
 Flanges of bunker stations not in use are checked for leaks NA
 In case there is any leakage on deck: STOP bunkering and directly inform Chief
NA
Engineer and the bridge
 Maintain two-way communication with barge NA
 Notify barge before changing tanks and topping off NA

4. After bunkering
 Bridge and Duty officer on deck informed of completed bunker operation
 Port Authorities informed
 Bunker signals deployed
 Close all valves
 Bunker flange has been reinstalled, all bolts installed
 Scuppers on main deck open after completion of bunker ops (after disconnecting the
hose)
 Drain hoses before disconnecting
 Blank bunker hose before returning to barge
 Take final soundings of all bunker tanks
 Check if the delivered quantity is the same as on the bunker delivery note, verify if
bunker receipt details are correct and keep the bunker delivery note o/b for at least 3 NA
years
 Collect oil sample of the barge or truck and keep the sample o/b for at least 12
NA
months
 Bunker Delivery Note / Receipt filled and signed. Samples sealed NA
 Properly complete Oil Record Book, Deck and Engine log books NA
