The document summarizes the elements of poetry present in Filipino rap battles, specifically FlipTop rap battles. It discusses the presence of lines, rhyme, rhythm, meter, and figurative language in the battles. While there are no strict stanzas or rhyme schemes due to the free verse style, rhymes and rhythm are important elements. The battles also involve the "balagtasan" debate style of arguing in a rhymed and scaled format. FlipTop rap battles have become popular in Philippine culture, especially among youth, as a modern version of balagtasan.

The Elements of Poetry present in the FIipTop Rap Battle are
Line, Rhyme, Rhythm, Meter and Figurative Language. In the said rap battle, there are lines but there are no stanzas because they used a free verse poem which requires no particular stanza length and also no particular rhyme scheme. When you watch the whole video, you will notice that there are lots of rhymes in every emcee’s verse. It also has a lot of rhythm since it is a rap battle, delivering it the right way is a must. Meter is also present in their lines but not always because sometimes their lines are freestyle. It also has a lot of Figurative Language present on it like Simile, Metaphor, Onomatopoeia, Irony, Repetition, Alliteration, Rhetorical Question, Hyperbole, and Allusion. The theme of the Rap Battle that we tackled is “Pogi Bars”. The emcee’s used lines that are kind of show-off or lines that praises oneself. They used anything related to handsomeness. Since it is a battle, they searched things related to the topic and also about their opponent. The content, flow, and delivery are a must in this type of poetic form. The FlipTop Rap Battle is just like any other poetic forms. Just like Spoken Word Poetry, Rap Battles are also written to be performed. It can be written, freestyle, or old school. Rap Battles are not strictly freestyle. They encouraged emcees to searched about their opponent and write their lines beforehand. The Elements of Poetry like Rhymes and Figurative Language are present in Rap Battles which made it similar to other poetic forms. The differences are FlipTop is a battle between two people using words as their weapon. They use the balagtasan-style of debate, the art of publicly arguing in an extemporaneous, scaled and rhymed format. FlipTop Rap Battles became a big hit here in our country. FlipTop is sometimes described as the “Modern Day Balagtasan” because two rappers are pitted against each other in a battle of a rap. As a combination of rap and balagtasan, Fliptop easily entered the Filipino culture. It acquired many fans, mostly from the youth sector. It was a big hit for people of all ages, especially for the teenagers. I, myself sometimes watch FlipTop Battle in YouTube because admit it or not, it is entertaining.
