Regarding the career path, self-understanding is one of the most crucial

elements.
It helps us to make better and more suitable career choices or even, helps
setting life goals.
It seems very ambiguous, so let me give an example to explain.
My football coach Chan Yuen Ting, is now the head coach of the China girls
U16 representative team. Surprisingly, before she took up the role of the head
coach, she actually studied Geography and resources management in CUHK.
After graduation, she became a data analyst in a local football club in HK. But
that wasn't what she wanted to be as well as her parents. Therefore, she went
back to university and studied a master's degree in physiotherapy. After all
these struggles, she ends up in the coaching arena, but not being a
physiotherapist. She adhered to become a football coach since she was 17.
She has gone through lots of exploration and crisis, like trying different
occupations and coached in serval football teams, like Eastern Sports Club
Football Team. Also, she studied the sports-related subject that helped her to
become a coach to a certain extent. She has a strong understanding of herself
after all those exploration and she has a strong self-identity. She knows what
she enjoys and excels in, which is football, that's why she decided this path.
Yet, commitment of is the utmost importance. Chan committed to be a
football coach with a great success and achievement. She is achievement in the
four identities status, which have both crisis and exploration.

Now, we can see how self-understanding can favour our decision on future
prospect. The earlier the planning, the clearer the decision can be made. There
are many ways to discover your true self. Try something you are unfamiliar
with. Find different part-time jobs or internships, or even listen to other’s
sharing on online platform, like Youtube. Find your own strengths, weaknesses
and interests and a great success awaits.
