CONTRACTOR HELIPORT ORIENTATION
Geographic Orientation
Attached you will find a map of the Polson Pier Heliport site. You should learn everything from it, with the
following things in mind:
Boundaries
Two words that are new to you are "groundside" and "airside". These are self-explanatory and, at any
heliport, these two sides are well marked and physically divided by fences. On your heliport map find the
fences and note that they enclose the airside, the area used only for "activities directly related to the
aircraft operation". Anything outside this area but still on the heliport site is referred to as "groundside".
Boundary and security functions of all restricted entrances to the airside must work together to prevent
everything and everyone from animals and children to armed hijackers from gaining entry.
Security Gates
Gates are kept locked for security reasons and, unless manned by a Security personal, the gate must be
closed and locked behind you when you use it, no matter how soon you expect to return, unless Security
personal is present at the gate.
Runways: N/A.
Helipad: Helipads are for helicopter landings and takeoffs. You will be working on the helipad (it
will be closed). You must be given prior permission by the Security Office to work on this
area.
Taxiways: N/A
Aprons: Aprons are for helicopter parking, loading and fuelling. You will be working on the Apron.
You must be given prior permission by the Security Office to work on this area.
When you speak of an apron, you use a number (Roman numerals), such as Apron I (pronounced
Apron Wun).
Barricades
All workers must remain within barricades /fencing on the airside of this project. DO NOT LEAVE THE
AIRSIDE AREA WITHOUT NOTIFYING YOUR SECURITY OFFICER.

on and off heliport property, you are required to observe all municipal, provincial and federal traffic
regulations.
Other Regulations
FAILURE TO OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS FORM WILL RESULT IN THE PERSONS INVOLVED
BEING REMOVED FROM THE WORK SITE.
I have reviewed the "Contractor Heliport Orientation" and understand the contents
of this form.
