Zilla: Sir last week was you discussed all
about the list hand tools and equipment
based on job
requirement and we identify appropriate
-Very good Zilla :), according to one of hand tools and equipment
your classmates, we manage to identify
appropriate hand tools and equipment and
what are those tools and equipment? just
give me 1 piece of equipment and 1 tool…

April: Sir!!! (raising hand)

-very good, what else? April: Sir, Drawing Table for equipment
and Graphite pencils for tools.

Clarizz: me sir, coloring pencils and

-very good Clarizz, I think each of you scanner
understand what our last discussion was
all about, and I think no more elaboration
for this…
Engage:

-And now we are going to do a group

activity. Each group has 5 members.  I will
give you 3 minutes to regroup yourselves.
All Class: Yes Sir!!!
(after 3 minutes)
-ok thank you, here is my instruction, list
down Atleast 5 tools and equipment and
after your short time collaboration, think of
a creative way to recite your answers here
in front of our class. the more confident the
more points to achieve. I am aiming this
activity to know your talents and to discard
all your shame in your body… (Char)

Good luck guys and be creative and

confident later in your presentation.

(after class presentation)

-ok class thank you for all your efforts and

participation in your presentation. I am
happy that all of you have become active
in this activity.

Now I will show you 2 images and try to

guess what it is.  clue is related to our next
topic.
-Does any one of you have an idea what
our next topic is all about referring to these
two photos?
Tope: yes sir
-Yes Tope, do you have an idea?
Tope: Sir, my idea is that our topic today is
all about classification of tools and
-very good observation!!!! equipment.

Explain:
-This time our topic today is all about the
classification of tools and equipment. Now
does anyone have an idea why we should
know the classification of things that we
will use in this subject? What is the
purpose of classifying?
Tope: me sir,
-yes Tope
Tope: The purpose of classifying is to
manage easier sir…
-very good idea tope… in order for us to
better understand what we are doing, first
is to know what materials we have in our
subject. For further explanation in this
subject there are two (2) classified to be
used in Illustration which are tools and
equipment. A tool is a device that can be
used to produce an item or accomplish a
task, but that is not consumed in the
process. It can be considered as extension
of the human hand thus increasing speed,
power, and accuracy and on the other
hand equipment includes any machine
powered by electricity.
-(showing PPT presentation)
-As an artist, you frequently use a variety
of drawing instruments and tools to
complete your tasks. You can always
improve your drawing skills and learn new
techniques thanks to the wide range of
drawing tools available. Here are some 20
common drawing tools and 8 common
equipments used in a variety of artistic
careers.

-Please read charle the first 5 of the list

Charles: Yes sir,
1. Drawing paper-There is a lot of variety
of paper, soft or hard. The most commonly
used is oslo paper and bond paper.
2. Masking Tape – It is used to fasten the
drawing paper on the drawing board or
table.
3. Drawing Pencil – The most important
tool in the drawing. It has a graphite and
have a 2 types which are soft classified as
B and hard which are classified as H.
4. Eraser – It is used to clean the errors or
dirt in the drawing.
5. Erasing Shield – It is used to protect the
rest of the drawing while clearing up
unnecessary pencil lines, smudges, and
drawing errors.
- thank you charles, Drawing paper,
Masking Tape, and Eraser is too common
in us even with the pencils, but did you
know that number and letter indicated in
the pencils have a big value for all
illustrator? Even in engineering. B is used
for shading the number increased the
blacker it can while H is used for
guidelines because it is not totally black
and Eraser shield helps to protect our
drawing clean while erasing some details
or mistakes.

-Next, please read the 6-10 information

Dean Dean: yes sir…
6. Pencil Sharpener – It is used to sharpen
the pencil’s tip.
7. Drawing Pens/Ink – It is used for
shading and drawing.
8. Brush – It is used to apply ink and paint
in the drawing.
9. Charcoal – It is considered the oldest
drawing tool that is dry and dusty made
from burnt wood.
10. Blending stumps or tortillion – It is
used to smudge or blend.
-thank you Dean, Pencil Sharpener is also
common in us but some high level
illustrator they’re prefer to use cutter as
their sharpener why? Because they can
control how much graphite point they
needed, Drawing Pens/Ink, using Brush,
Charcoal, and Blending Stumps are in
another level of skills in illustration, but we
can learn in thru experience. Especially in
using Brush, like pencils it is also have
different variety with different job can do.
And Blending Stumps is use in smudging
giving realistic drawing effects.

-Next 11-15, please read Emman.

Emmanuel:
11. Watercolors – It is made with a water-
soluble binder for coloring purposes.
12. Acrylic or Oil Paint – It is also used for
coloring purposes that is usually oil-based
or water-based.
13. Colored Pencils – It is made of a
narrow wooden cylindrical case and a
pigmented wax-based core forcoloring
purposes.
14. T-square – It is used when drawing
horizontal lines and serves as a guide in
using triangles to drawvertical lines.
15. Triangles – It is a three-sided ruler
-thank you Emman, about coloring tools or used to draw vertical, parallel, and angled
technique or masterpiece of an artist, they lines at 30, 45, 60, and90 degrees
used different kind of coloring it depends
for their like or inspiration but this water
color, Acrylic and Colored pencils are the
common coloring tools as a students. T-
square and triangles is also used in
engineering as their guide drawing a
straight line and getting a degree.

-Next read 16-20 Taj.

Taj: yes sir,

16. Compass – It is used to draw arcs and
circles.
17. Divider – It is used to transfer
measurements and divide arcs and lines
into the desired parts ornumbers.
18. Triangular Scale - It is used to
reproduce a drawing in a reduced or
enlarged size.
19. Ruler – It is also called “line gauge”
that is used to draw straight lines and
measure length.
20. Protractor – It is used to determine
gradations of degrees when measuring
angles, circles, and arcs. Itis also a semi-
circular drawing instrument divided into
180 degrees equal parts.

-thank you, all of those are also used in

engineering but also use for illustration for
delivering realistic appearance.

-And now for the equipments…please read

the 1-4 informations, Ms. Anna
Anna: yes sir,
1. Drawing Table/Drafting Table/Architect’s
Table or Drawing Board – It is used as the
base in drawing activities usually made of
wood.
2. Easel – It is used as a stand to support
artwork or illustration.
3. Palette – It is used to hold and mix
paints.
4. Computer with table and chair – It is a
-Please continue to read , Ms.Rhena, the desktop computer set for creating digital

Rhena: yes sir,

5. Printer – It is used to produce hard
copies of Illustration.
6. Scanner – It is used to convert printed
photo, hand-drawn images into digital or
soft copy.
7. Drawing Tablet – It is used to directly
draw digital versions of images.
-thank you, as we know also having a 8. Software – It is used to create digital

great impact to our works. Example for
Drawing board, or Easel, use for holding a
drawing area for not going mess in art
works. And also for comfortable feelings
while we are drawing or illustrating
something, actually if we love this career
all our tools and equipments becomes our
best friends. Do you believe me class?
Because they are the one who always
helping as in our artworks, and also we are
continuing learning as long as we use this
all items we have. And for digital aspects
in illustration, we have Printer, Scanner,
Drawing Tablet, and software, actually
there are a lot of them if we discuss this
deeper but not today.
Elaborate:
-Did you understand our short discussion
today? All Students: yes sir
-Just like other subjects, this major also
have a wide range of topics, this is only an
introduction for our whole year learning. I
will not over load you with such of
information. Tomorrow, we will discuss
about graphite pencils focusing to its grade
value and how to use it in shading.

-For now, let’s have a short quiz z for my

discussion today, please get ¼ sheet of
paper and ball pen.
