ABSTRACT

The study was conducted at Anand district of Gujarat State. A total of 120 farmers who had participated in the Krishi
Mahotsav were randomly selected. Ex-post facto research design was used for the study. Attitude of farmers towards Krishi
Mahotsav was measured by employing the scale developed by Pandya et al. (2015) with due modifications. More than half
(57.50 per cent) of the farmers had highly favourable overall attitude towards Krishi Mahotsav.

INTRODUCTION METHODOLOGY

Agriculture with its allied sectors is the largest source
of livelihood of India. The average monthly income of the
agricultural households in 2017 ranged from 5,842- 16,020
(Radhakrishnan et al., 2019). Hence, the income of the
farmers needs to be sustained. The Agricultural extension
plays a crucial role in increasing farm productivity, bridging
the gap between researchers and farmers, achieving gender
equity and reducing rural poverty. (Rivera and Corning, 1990).
Government of Gujarat has launched ‘Krishi Mahotsav’, a
demand led extension programme with universal outreach.
Attitude refers to the degree of positive or negative effects
associated with some physiological object (Thurstone,
1946). Attitude in this study is conceptualized as the degree
of positive or negative feeling of farmers towards Krishi
Mahotsav. Considering the time spent behind this innovative
extension model, expenditure incurred and the man power
used, it is important to find out the present status of farmers’
attitude and factors responsible in forming attitude towards
Krishi Mahotsav. Till now, there is no systematic study taken
up to measure such feeling.
OBJECTIVES
To measure the attitude of farmers towards Krishi
Mahotsav
A random sample of 120 farmers who had participated
in Krishi Mahotsav were selected randomly from two villages
each from Anand, Anklav, Borsad, Sojitra and Petlad talukas
of Anand district of Gujarat state. Attitude of farmers towards
Krishi Mahotsav was measured by using the scale developed
by Pandya et al. (2015) with due modifications was used.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Farmers as per their statement wise attitude towards
Krishi Mahotsav
It is obvious from the Table 1 that 95.00 per cent of the
farmers were in agreed to strongly agreed category regarding
the statement farmer’s knowledge regarding improved
scientific technology has been increased due to Krishi
Mahotsav. A majority (90.85 per cent) of the farmers were
in agreed to strongly agreed category with the statement that
the economic condition of the farmers has improved due to
advise obtained from Krishi Mahotsav. It was observed that
88.30 per cent of the farmers felt that it should be organized
every year to reap the fruits of innovation. It can be observed
that 84.17 per cent of the farmers felt that Krishi Mahotsav
has played a significant role in increasing per unit production
of major crops of Gujarat.

The result indicates that 82.50 per cent of the per cent of the farmers were in agreed to strongly agreed

the farmers were agreed to strongly agreed with the statement
Krishi Mahotsav helps the farmers to get loans from the bank.
It was realized that 74.10 per cent of the farmers felt that
Krishi Mahotsav helps the farmers to get improved seeds,
fertilizers and pesticides in time.
The results from the Table 1 also indicates that
80.00 per cent of the farmers were agreed to strongly agreed
category with the statement that scientist and functionaries
work together to plan and implement Krishi Mahotsav
activities in the village. It can be seen that 77.50 per cent

From Table 2, it can be concluded that slightly
more than half (57.50 per cent) of the farmers had highly
favourable attitude towards Krishi Mahotsav, followed by
36.70 per cent and 5.80 per cent of the farmers were with
favourable and neutral attitude towards Krishi Mahotsav,
respectively. Whereas, none of the farmer was observed to
have unfavourable attitude towards Krishi Mahotsav had
highly unfavourable attitude towards Krishi Mahotsav.
The probable reason for the above findings might
be due the fact that Krishi Mahotsav might have helped the
farmers in knowing the quality inputs required to maximize
the productivity and also helped the resource poor farmers
by giving the input kits thus increasing the trialability of
innovative technologies. Also, Krishi Mahotsav might have
given timely and needed information to the farmer. Also,
learning in group situation ensures horizontal extension
through mutual interaction and understanding. Thus,
this automatically leads to the speedy adoption of new
technologies and modern farming practices. All these reasons
might be the reason for the favourable attitude of farmers
towards Krishi Mahotsav.

the agricultural production. The study also points out that
75.00 per cent of the farmers were agreed to strongly agreed
with the statement Krishi Mahotsav creates more interest in
participating other extension activities. It was realized that
80.80 per cent of the farmers were disagreed to strongly
disagreed that only contact farmers of government officers are
benefited through Krishi Mahotsav. Finally, majority (74.20
per cent) of the farmers disagreed to strongly disagreed with
the statement that farmers of Gujarat area still continue the
traditional farming even after starting of Krishi Mahotsav.

CONCLUSION
From the above findings, it can be concluded that
a great majority of the farmers had favourable to highly
favourable attitude towards Krishi Mahotsav. It also shows
that Krishi Mahotsav is effective in transfer and adoption of
the new technologies that maximize the profit of the farmers
This indicates that efforts are needed to maintain the level of
attitude of farmers towards Krishi Mahotsav.
