MERCY

In this module we will continue working on this

wonderful attribute of God.

Can you write in your own words what it means to be merciful?

You can review the definition in Module 3.

GOD IS MERCIFUL.
He loves us even with our mistakes.
He can understand us when we suffer.
His mercy gives us new opportunities each day.

2
STRENGTH

EMPATHY

God is MERCIFUL. He doesn’t just love us with our

mistakes, but he can also understand our weaknesses,
our emotions, and our feelings.

Memory Verse

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize

with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in
every way, just as we are–yet he did not sin.”
Hebrews 4:15

Who is that high priest?

1 With help of your monitor, look up the meaning of:

SYMPATHIZE

3
Jesus, the one who intercedes for us before the
Father, is able to understand our weaknesses.
He can understand when we make mistakes, when we have emotions
that are not nice. This is because He went through the same
situations but without sinning. HE UNDERSTANDS AND LOVES US.

Bible Reading

John 13:36-38; 18:25-27; 21:15-19. “PETER AND JESUS”

In this opportunity we are going to study the Bible passage from Module 3, when Peter denies
Jesus. Then, we will do an activity with that passage.

1 We suggest watching the following Superbook epsiode where the Bible passage is
portrayed:

Watch the following video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4ZOmkgPyjo&ab_channel=Superbook

Activity

2 Answer according to the Bible passage:

Why do you think Peter denied Jesus?

3 Circle the correct answer.

How do you think Peter felt when they came to ask him if he was Jesus’ friend?

TRUSTED FEARFUL SAD PEACEFUL

How do you think Peter felt when he heared the rooster and remembered what Jesus said?

SORRY REPENTED PROUD SAD PEACEFUL

4
Challenge

EMPATHY is the ability of understanding

and sharing the feelings of others.

In this activity we challenge you to practice empathy with Peter.

4 For this, you must answer the following:

What emotions do you think Peter felt when he realized that he had denied Jesus? (You may
check on the last question of the previous activity).

Have you ever felt that way? When?

Trying to understand what another person feels and identifying with a

moment or situation in which we felt the same is a way of developing

EMPATHY.

with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in
every way, just as we are–yet he did not sin.”

Activity

In this activity we will work our empathy through the story of Joseph and his brothers. For this, you
must cut the lense that corresponds to “JOSEPH’S BROTHERS” and the one of “JOSEPH”.
(Attached on the last page).

2 Use the lense corresponding to “JOSEPH’S BROTHERS”.

Now we will look at the story through their eyes, for a moment, we will try to see it as they did.

3 Now we will answer.

6
How do you think it made Joseph’s brothers feel to know that their father preferred
Joseph?

What feelings did Joseph’s brothers have towards him because of this?

4 Now use Joseph’s lenses and we will try to look through his eyes.

How did his father’s love towards him make Joseph feel?

How did his brothers’ despise made Joseph feel?

Challenge

Empathy is the ability of looking at a situation through

the other person’s eyes and being able to identify with that.

7
In this opportunity, we challenge you to draw a situation in which you have felt one of the
emotions that Joseph or his brother’s felt.
Share it with your family or friends.

LET’S DRAW!

EMPATHY

Memory Verse

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize

with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in
every way, just as we are–yet he did not sin.”
Hebrews 4:15

Have you learned the memory verse?

IT’S TIME TO SHOW IT!
You can recite it to your family or monitor.

Bible Reading

Luke 6:31 “DO TO OTHERS, AS YOU WOULD LIKE THEM DO TO YOU.”

1 Look up the verse in your Bible.

Discuss with your monitor, friends, or family about what you think this means.

Activity

In this activity we will work on the opposite of what the passage says. Luke 6:31 says that we must
do to others as we would like them do to us. In the same way, we should NOT treat others as we
would NOT like to be treated.

2 Number those things that others might do to you (friends, siblings, parents, etc.)

9
3 Number the things that you do that you know others don’t like.

Challenge

Now that we have learned about EMPATHY, we already know how others might feel when we do
something you don’t like.

We challenge you to remember something you have done that bothered a friend, family, or
monitor.

4 Write what it was and to whom.

Now, we invite you to make a drawing or card in which you ask your forgiveness, express that you
understood how the other person felt with what you did.

This will make you a SPECIAL AGENT OF PEACE.

LET’S GET TO WORK!
