HUMSS - 12
ACTIVITY 4
Task: Which of places in the world will you include on your bucket list? Give at least five (5)
destinations and provide a brief explanation as regards your choices.

My Top 5 Reasons/What I know about these places

5. The Netherlands I have always dreamed of living in a city free

from car pollution. In addition to its rich
cultural heritage, the Netherlands is renowned
for its walkable cities. Imagine a city without
the noise and smog of cars – it would be truly
wonderful.

The Netherlands, a low-lying country prone to

flooding, has managed to survive thanks to its
impressive engineering marvels, including its
dams, canals, floodgates, and polders. These
have saved the country from sinking into the
sea, with most of its land actually reclaimed
from the water. Over hundreds of years, the
Dutch have developed complex architecture
and city planning to combat the rising tides, a
testament to humanity's unyielding will to
adapt. Witnessing these magnificent feats in
person would be an unforgettable experience,
and it is why I would love to visit this incredible
country.
4. Strasbourg, France Strasbourg is undeniably one of Europe's
most beautiful cities, with its imposing
cathedral featuring intricate carvings and the
picturesque houses and canals of Petite
France, making it a popular tourist destination.
The busy streets, lined with houses from times
long past, remain unchanged, a testament to
the beautiful aesthetic from which Strasbourg
draws its long history.

What sets Strasbourg apart is its refusal to

conform to modern ideals and its unchanging
beauty, only serving to enhance its innate
charm. Walking the city's streets during the
Christmas season, making your way into the
famous Christmas Markets as snow falls
between the eaves and old houses create the
scenery, is truly a dream. At the city's center
stands a towering cathedral of gothic
inspiration, adding to the city's allure.

In essence, Strasbourg is a city steeped in

beauty and history that captures the hearts of
visitors from around the world, and it would be
a dream come true to experience it during the
Christmas season.

3. Athens, Greece The city of Athens is renowned for its

archaeological ruins and monuments, which
are considered the greatest architectural
achievements of Greek antiquity. Visiting this
historic city offers a breathtaking experience
as travelers can immerse themselves in the
culture of one of history's greatest civilizations,
ancient Greece, whose influence on modern
ethics and philosophy cannot be denied. It is
no surprise that Greece, with all its splendor,
continues to attract visitors from all over the
world. Witnessing what came before our time
certainly evokes a sense of captivation and
curiosity in me.
2. Italy Italy, the land of ancient Rome, has always
fascinated me. The zenith of the Roman
Empire as one of the world's most powerful
empires is truly captivating, despite its history
of constant warfare and bloodshed. The
wonders built by the Romans have stood the
test of time and continue to inspire awe today.

Personally, I have always dreamed of visiting

Rome to see the Colosseum with my own
eyes. Italy is also dotted with various Roman
roads and statues that have survived
thousands of years, reflecting the hardworking
and efficient ideals that embodied Roman
values.

Overall, the history of Italy and the Roman

Empire is a testament to human achievement
and a source of inspiration for generations to
come.

1. Megijima, Seto Inland Sea, Japan Megijima is a small island in Japan's Seto
Inland Sea, not a popular destination with its
only tourist attraction being the ogre's cave.
Known as Onigashima, the island is believed
to be the home of Japan's oni, or ogres, and
the setting of the famous Momotaro folklore.
While that's certainly interesting, what draws
me to this island is a Japanese novel I read
once, which described the simple life on the
island through the eyes of a tourist who
explored it entirely by bike. The novel also
spoke of the island's unique atmosphere as a
truly peaceful place. With a population of just
150 people, this is no surprise. Its beautiful
coastline provides a wonderful venue for a
leisurely stroll, and the local fishing culture is
both fun and relaxing. If I had the chance, this
is the place I would live in without a doubt, as I
long for that certain peace I once read about
when I was young. One day, I will visit and
experience it for myself.
