PRESENT SIMPLE VS PRESENT CONTINUOUS

1. Complete the following sentences with Present Simple:

5. Put the verbs in brackets in the “ Present Simple”

My friend Cathy has (have) a horse. It is (be) a beautiful animal with big eyes and a long tail. Its
name is Bella and it loves (love) people. It doesn’t bite (not bite) or kick and it is always friendly. It eats (eat)
apples and hay but it doesn’t eat (not eat) meat. Horses don’t like (not like) meat. Cathy usually rides (ride)
her horse every day after school. She does not go (not go ) into the town because there is too much traffic.
There aren’t (not be) many cars in the country so she takes (take) Bella there. It often rains (rain) in England
so at night Bella and the other horses sleep (sleep).

6. Present Simple / Continuous


Susan is making a video about a typical day in her life. Put the verbs in brackets into the
Present Simple or Continuous.
Hi, my name’s Susan Smith and this is my family. As you can see we have (have) it at this time.
Look, everyone smiles (smile) and happy. That is because I filmed them - usually we: don't talk each other
in the morning
This is where I catch (catch) the bus to school every day. It’s the number 13, and it arrived now.
These two girls are my friends. Tina and Becky. We all go (go) to the same school. Tina is wearing (wear) a
skirt today, which is unusual. She hardly ever wears (wear) skirts.
I sit (sit) on the bus now. It usually arrives (arrive) at school at about a quarter to nine. The bus
driver shouted (shout) at the children at the back of the bus at the moment. He tells (tell) them to sit down.
The kids on the bus usually behaved (behave) very well. I don’t know (not know) what’s wrong with them
today.
This is my classroom. I always sit (sit) at this desk, next to my friend Becky. Our teacher usually
comes (come) in at five past nine. She won’t be very happy today because everyone is making (make) a lot
of noise. Oh, here she is! I have to (have to ) turn off the camera now. See you later!
