PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

I am discussing a non-profit animal rescue center that has multiple departments from animal
adoptions, a public veterinarian for small animals as well as an equine hospital, therapeutic
riding programs, children’s education and camps, public support programs, and administration.
My role is the client services supervisor in the adoption department and I’m addressing the
organization as the Animal Center due to non-disclosure agreements. I am discussing a specific
project I worked on last summer where we rescued 45 beagles out of 4,000 that had been
removed from the Envigo research and laboratory sourcing organization, due to over 70 animal
rights violations. Once arrived, we had to individually assess each pet’s needs medically and
behaviorally before sending them to foster homes and eventually their forever families.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

Last week, I described communication issues between the administration building and the
adoption building while coordinating this rescue operation to bring the beagles to our Center.
The human resources frame in this organization is focused on supporting the needs of the
business while oftentimes forgetting the needs of the employees but also the animals. Due to
there being so many different departments, sometimes communication gets lost between them
and the needs of one department end up trumping the needs of another. There are definitely
smaller ‘cliques’ within departments that can make it difficult to communicate effectively and
actually feel heard by other departments. All the departments have their own separate buildings
and do not generally socialize with each other as much. This directly impacted this project
because there was miscommunication on what was needed from public relations and social
media and when it was appropriate for them to take photos, post, and discuss details of the
animals.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

1
I think clear direction to those other departments before this project began would have helped
this situation and set boundaries for the animal care workers who needed to take into account
the animal’s needs before anything else. I would have also suggested making a certain time
frame for them to begin interviews and press releases as it was not discussed and details were
released too early.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Unfortunately, I think my position is not high enough within this project to have done anything
much differently if I had known about this frame at the time. While I was actively working on
the project, I do not have the authority to have placed those boundaries or even made a
recommendation at that time. I think learning about this now will give me more information for
future projects and how to react.
