HOW TO SPOT FAKE NEWS

CONTEXT:
Your flatmate is an Italian Erasmus student who’s part of a WhatsApp group where there
are mainly members from Italy and a couple of people from English-speaking countries.
They usually communicate in Italian.
The group has been very active lately, due to recent international events, and they have all
been sharing news gathered from different sources.
Right after forwarding a shocking piece of news your flatmate had received somewhere
else, one of the English speakers shared the infographic below.
Your flatmate doesn’t get it and asks you for help to understand both the meaning and the
intention behind the message, as you are a more proficient speaker of English than he is.

TASK:
• Greet your friend
• Explain what you've read in the infographic (“the meaning”)
• Tell him why you think that English speaker send him this infographic (“the
intention behind the message”)

Remember to:

ü Use advanced grammar and vocabulary.

ü Organise your ideas coherently.
ü Conclude your speech effectively.
ü Review and check the grammar and vocabulary you are going to use.
ü If you feel unsure about your pronunciation, you can check it out first in a good
dictionary or on https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/ (write your speech, choose
an accent and a voice to read it and the speed –slower (-1), faster (+1) or standard
(0). Then you can hear your speech and try to imitate the accent and
pronunciation.
