PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The situation I plan on researching is whether or not it is a smart strategic decision for
General Motors to follow the mainstream initiatives to downsize their efforts towards fuel
ran vehicles, and put majority of focus on all electric vehicles. Considering all electric
vehicles are fairly new to the market, there is plenty of learning curves and innovations to be
weary about jumping completely into the electric market. I will be observing this scenario in
a postion of an external professional consultant.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

The human resources structure has a large part in the situation of going all electric. As of last
year, there was a pledge sent out by General Motors to their global partners in an to, “join the
company in a commitment to carbon neutrality, the development of social responsibility
programs and implementation of sustainable procurement practices in their supply chain
operations.” (G.M., 2022) I think this is going to heaily influence not only the situation but my
effort that does not align directly with what they believe to be true. I agree that commitment to
carbon neutrality is necessary, but there is a much larger risk for social responsibility if the new
vehicles produced don’t operate effectively, don’t last, and worst of all, cause more pollution
than already present.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

I am weary when it comes to the human resources aspect within GM. I was aware of the
mainstream push for going green in the automotive industry, but I was not aware of the

actual global reach that is in play. Considering GM is a globalwide organization, I would
not need to just go through the headquarters of GM located in Detroit, Michigan. I will
have to work through the innitiatives through their global human resources department,
and work my way through each regional office. (Europe, Asia, South America, North
America) I know for a fact that this kind of change will not flow through the departments
as smooth as I’d like to think.
I think the best course of action would be for me to work my way up, to get insights as to
how each department reacts to the initiative. Each person I would come in contact with
will have their own personal opnions and notions, which I will have to use to leverage my
way through the ranks. Once trends have been annotated, then I work my way into the
executives in which I will be more prepared to debate with, considering their notions are
what is being imulated throughout the organization.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Given what I know now, I think the main course of action I would do is clarify the true
global reach of the organization. There are more things to consider when an entity holds
more reach meaning more resources and allies to back them. This makes the situation a
little bit more complex, especially when the global perspective is brought into the
equation. I say this because, with global affiliations, means global government being
entangled in the mix of everything. Considering the HR structure and the new evidence
of a global petition/commitment, the frame will be cause an upward battle for an
organizational level narrative that goes against what they have been preaching.
