the importance of simple life (samadya) This form

of culture is called a cultural system.

a) The fourth form is the ideas that have been learned by members of the community
since childhood, so that they have shaped the pattern of thoughts, ways of
thinking, and behavior of a cultural group. This fourth form is called cultural
values.

1.1 Public
The term "society" is a translation of the word society (English). While terms
societycomes from socious (Latin) meaning "friend". Then, what is society? In the
literature of the social sciences, there are many definitions of society. Some of them are
as follows.
a. Society is a large number of people who live in the same area. relatively independent
from people outside the region, and have a relatively similar culture (Richard T.
Schaefer and Robert P Lamm, 1998)
b. Society is people who interact in a certain area and have a common culture. (John J
Macionis, 1997)
c. Society is a group of unique individuals. Society can also be understood as a group of
people who are organized because they have a common goal (Wikipedia)

From the various definitions that exist, it can be noted several important elements of
society as follows:

a. There is a group of people who live together. In this case it does not matter how many
people live together.
b. This life together lasted for quite a long time. The phrase "long enough" is not a
numerical measure. It wants to show that life together is not incidental and
spontaneous, but is carried out for the long term.
The human group is a life together. This means that
they have a shared culture that makes group members bond with one another.

In reality there are differences between one community group and another community
group. The difference occurs because society experiences evolution or development.
slowly Based on the stages reached in the evolutionary process, there are several types of
community groups. According to Gerhard Lensky and Jean Lensky (Macionis, 1997),
these types of community groups are hunter-gatherer societies, cultivator and rancher
societies, agrarian societies, industrial societies, and post-industrial society.

1.2 Cultural and Community Relations

Society and culture in essence have a very close relationship and in fact almost all
community actions are cultural so that society and culture cannot be separated. Humans
(society) have four positions towards culture, namely as:
1) culture devotee,
2) culture bearer,
3) cultural manipulator, and
4) cultural creator.

Society and culture are one bond that cannot be separated in this life. Humans as God's
most perfect creatures create their own culture and preserve it from generation to
generation. Culture is created from daily activities and also from events that have been
arranged by the Almighty.

Culture comes from the word culture which means things related to human mind and
reason. The definition of culture itself is something that will affect the level of knowledge
and includes a system of ideas or ideas contained in the human mind, so that in everyday
life, culture is
abstract. But we can also enjoy culture with our five
senses. Song, dance, and language are forms of culture that we can feel.

A large culture usually has sub-cultures (or so-called sub-cultures), that is, a culture that
differs slightly in terms of behavior and beliefs from its parent culture. The emergence of
sub-cultures is caused by several things, including differences in age, race, ethnicity,
class, aesthetics, religion, occupation, political views and gender.

There are several ways that people do when dealing with immigrants and cultures that are
different from the original culture. The way people choose depends on how much the
parent culture differs from the minority culture, how many immigrants come, the nature
of the native population, the effectiveness and intensity of intercultural communication,
and the type of government in power.

1) Monoculturalism: The government strives for cultural assimilation so that people of

different cultures become one and work together.
2) Leitculture (core culture): A model developed by Bassam Tibi in Germany. In
Leitculture, minority groups can maintain and develop their own culture, without
conflicting with the main culture that exists in indigenous peoples.
3) Melting Pot: Immigrant/foreign cultures mingle and join native cultures without
government intervention.
4) Multiculturalism: A policy that requires immigrants and minority groups to maintain
their own culture and interact peacefully.

1.3 Example of the Relationship Between Culture and Society

a. Specific cultures on the basis of regional factors
Customs apply in Lampung and Minangkabau. In Minangkabau it is usually the
woman who proposes while in Lampung it is the man who proposes.
b. Special culture on the basis of religion
The existence of various problems within one religion also gives
rise to different personalities among its adherents.
c. Culture by profession
The personality of a doctor is different from that of a lawyer and it
all influences the family atmosphere and the way they get along.
d. The way of life in the city and in the village is different
The difference between a child who grew up in a city and a child
who grew up in a village. City children are more open and
courageous to stand out among their peers, while village children
have more self-confidence and a sense of value.

2. Social Problems, Culture and Society

Social change or socio-cultural development in Indonesia can be seen
as following the changing times that are developing globally. Where many
foreign cultures have begun to be embraced by Indonesian people, the
pattern of thinking is more inclined to the west, so that perhaps they leave
behind traditions or habits that actually have long existed in Indonesian
society itself. One of the reasons is due to the existence of an increasingly
developing era and increasingly sophisticated technology that makes all
aspects of life easier which then greatly influences the lives of Indonesian
people in socializing and interacting.

Socio-cultural changes as a result of globalization have given rise to

several kinds of socio-cultural problems in Indonesia. As a country that has
cultural diversity, changes or socio-cultural problems that occur must be
difficult to avoid. Some of the socio-cultural problems that occur in
Indonesia as a result of globalization include:

1) Pop Culture

The socio-cultural problem that is most easily seen in Indonesian

society is the influence of pop culture. Pop-culture or popular culture is
