Noise from gantry while rotating.

Troubleshooting

Collimator CAM Motor and Coupler

Troubleshooting Details:
Collimator General Troubleshooting
Examine logs for errors
Run Diagnostics to help isolate issue
Do a visual inspection, look for obvious damage or loose connections
Examine collimator fuses
Test motions by hand
For more information on doing these steps see the product service manual.
Do not under any circumstances take a working CCB board from a working collimator and use it to
attempt to repair or troubleshoot a collimator issue. The collimator char file that is located on the CCB
board will be over written during flashdownload making the working collimator unusable. The
collimator will have to be replaced by a new unit.
Detailed Troubleshooting:
Run Collimator Diagnostics for at least 120 seconds and observe motions. Set for continues motion
and all aperture and filter positions.
Cam motor A or B not driving:
1. If one cam motor trying to move and the other seems frozen, often with crack or bang
noise, the motor that is not moving is the bad one.
2. With power applied to the collimator and not in diagnostic mode, check to see if the cams
can be moved by hand. This should not be able to be done.
3. Check fuse F1 and F2 on the CCB. (Before replacing the CCB for a blown fuse, try
replacing just the fuse)
4. If either fuse is blown, order the CCB and cam motor. Replace the CCB and if F1 was
blown replace cam motor A, if F2 was blown replace cam motor B.
5. Check coupler for cam motors. If broken replace the Cam motor and coupler.
6. LS 1.X - Brightspeed collimators have a motor drive amplifier that is swapable between
the A and B Cams. See if the problem moves with the drive amp.
7. If the above does not fix the issue the cam encoder may be defective. The encoder is part
of the collimator FRU and requires the replacement of the entire collimator.

Cam A and B not driving and the Filter is also not driving
1. Check the incoming 48VDC on the CCB from test point 9 to 10. If the 48VDC is missing
troubleshoot backwards to the rotating 48VDC supply.
2. If the 48VDC is present and F1 and F2 are not blown on the CCB check the 24VDC from
test point 16 to 10. If the 24VDC is missing order the CCB, a cam motor and collimator filter
assembly.
3. Replace the CCB first. If after replacement the filter does not drive, replace the filter
assembly. If one of the cams do not drive replace the cam motor.

NOTE: If the encoder counts are just a few ticks away from the commanded position. Check
and tighten motor/coupling set screws first.
