Pursigido Clothing hails as kings of UCC Basketball League

With a commanding and impeccable journey, Pursigido Clothing Basketball clinched the
championship trophy as they shut down Solafide Men’s Basketball with a 125-119 victory in
2022 Unida Christian Colleges Open Basketball League Finals, August 2 at the UCC gymnasium.

Before they entered the final round, Pursigido earned a perfect 3-0 winning record from their
knockout phase as they eliminated Randogs Basketball (115-85), UCC Ballers (92-73), and
Nephilim Basketball (113-111).

Grade 12 student Marvin Lubiano was declared as the Finals Most Valuable Player of the
tournament after he registered 24 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals.

In an exclusive interview, Lubiano expressed his gratitude to the Pursigido Community for
showing their love and support which empowered him to perform well.

“Akala namin talaga hanggang semis nalang kami pero in God’s will, nabiyayaan pa ng finals
and bonus na syempre ‘yung pagiging Finals MVP”, he added.

Pursigido got off to a solid start as the guards Lubiano and John Vergel Mansalungan launched
a combined seven consecutive drives while Laurence Veran added two bank shots which helped
to gain the 25-20 lead.

However, they began to struggle after Lubiano and Mansalungan were unable to score and
create plays properly due to the double-team strategy of Solafide and the lead was flipped on
the halftime, 30-40.

The frustrations of the players carried over into the height of the third quarter but the
atmosphere abruptly changed when it reached the three-minute mark after they enhanced a trap
defense to force opponents’ turnovers and produce floaters and putbacks thanks to Lubiano
and Robbie Nana to decrease the lead.

In the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, the powerhouse team appeared to be more
assertive after Lubiano dropped five quick drives while four straight putbacks were contributed
by Kim Bendaña which became a great impact to make comeback and claim the upset win.

Aside from the trophy, Pursigido Clothing will also take home 5,000 pesos as a part of their
prizes while Solafide, which finished as the second place, will receive 3,000 pesos from the
tournament.
