Group 1

Materials:
Food color
4 cups of water

Cup 1 – 200ml
Cup 2- 100ml
Cup 3- 100ml
Cup 4- 100ml

Procedure:
1. Add a drop of food color to the first cup
2. Gradually pour half of the mixture of the first cup in to the second cup
3. The same goes for the third and fourth cap
Guide Question:
1. What happens to the food color when dropped into the cup containing water?
2. What did you notice with the experiment?
3. Based from the activity, what are the particle nature of matter?
Answer:
1. The food color mix with the cup containing water.
2. Our group notice a small amount of food color can give a color to a large amount of water
because the color of the dye can be seen until the last cup.
3. In this experiment means that when dissolved in water the food color must contain millions
of tiny particles that can spread through a large amount of water. So with this we can say
whether it is solid, liquid or gas is made up of millions or even billions of tiny particles.
Group 2

Materials:
3 syringe
Water
Sugar

Syringe 1- contains air

Syringe 2- contains water
Syringe 3 – contains sugar

Procedure:
Syringe 1
1. Pull the plunger of the syringe until it reaches the 30ml mark
2. Press your thumb against the plunger’s tip and push the plunger with other thumb
Syringe 2
1. Suck the water to the 30 ml of the syringe
2. Tightly cover the tip of the syringe with the one thumb and try to push the plunger.
Syringe 3
1. Put the sugar into the syringe
2. Cover the tip of the syringe with the one thumb and push the plunger with the other thumb.

Guide Question:
1. What did you notice in Syringe 1? What do you think the Syringe 1 represents and why?
2. What happened in Syringe 2? What do you think the Syringe 2 represents and why?
3. In Syringe 3 are we able to compress the sugar? Why?
4. Based from the activity, what are the particle nature of matter?
Answer:
1. As we notice the plunger can be pushed all the way to the 15ml level of the syringe because the
air inside the syringe 1 represents the gas can be compressed causing the particles come closer
together.
2. We cannot push the plunger in the syringe with the water inside. We felt the resistance of the
water to being compressed because the water as a liquid is not compressible as air.
3. We cannot push the plunger because the sugar cannot be compressed anymore inside the
syringe. The sugar as solid is very close to each other.
4. Based on the activity we had done the particle nature of matter is that particles have spaces
between them as we notice with different characteristics of solid, liquid and gas.
Group 3

Materials:
Perfumed/ cologne

Procedure:
1. Get one representative of the group to move one meter apart from the other member of
the group and spray the perfume on the body.

Guide Questions:
1. Are you able to smell the sprayed perfume?
2. How come you can smell the perfume even though they are meter apart?
3. Based from the activity, what are the particle nature of matter?
Answer:
1. Yes, we able to smelled the perfume.
2. Simply because the particles of the perfume are moving and as they are moving they
reached our nose so we can able to smelled it.
3. The particle nature of matter in this activity shows that the particles are moving all the time
that is why we smelled the perfume.
Group 4

Materials:
Piece of metal
Cracker

Procedure:
1. Try to break the piece of metal and cracker

Guide Questions:
1. Can you break easily the piece of metal? Why?
2. What can you say about the characteristic of the metal?
3. How about the cracker, are you able to break it easily? Why?
4. Based from the activity, what are the particle nature of matter?
Answer:
1. No, we cannot break it. We are afraid to do it because the metal is very rigid and firm and
cannot break it easily.
2. The particles in this type of object attract each other strongly making it difficult to break.
3. Yes, we broke easily the cracker because it is brittle and easy to turn into many pieces.
4. In this activity really shows that the particles attract each other. The force of attraction between
the particles in the piece of metal is very strong that’s why we are not able to break it. While the
particles in cracker is weak and we easily break it and turn it into pieces.
