Exam. of Platelets in Stained Smear
I – Objective(s):
II – Materials:
70% Alcohol Glass slide Microscope
Cotton balls Spreader Tissue paper/gauze
Lancet Wright’s stain Forceps
Tally counter Cedar wood oil
III – Procedure:
1. Obtain blood by skin puncture.
2. Make a smear & allow to dry.
3. Stain the smear with Wright’s stain & allow to dry.
4. Examine the stained smear under the microscope. Focus under the LPO & then
shift to HPO.
5. Observe the appearance of platelets as seen under the HPO. Record your
observations.
6. Count platelets in 10 fields under HPO & compute as follows:
