PRE-BOARD EXAMINATION (2021-22)

CLASS- X

SUBJECT: SCIENCE

[Time allowed: 2 Hours] [Maximum Marks:40]

General Instructions:
(i) All questions are compulsory.
(ii) The question paper has three sections and 15 questions. All questions are
compulsory.
(iii) Section-A has 7 questions of 2 marks each; Section-B has 6 questions of 3 marks each;
and Section-C has 2 case based questions of 4 marks each.
(iv) Internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only
one of the alternatives in such questions.

SECTION- A
1. What is a homologous series? Which two of the following organic compounds belong
to the same homologous? 2

C2H6, C2H6O, C2H6O2, CH4O.

2. The diagram below shows part of the periodic table.

2

a. Which elements would react together to form covalent compounds?

b. Between the two elements W and Z, which will have a bigger atomic radius? Why?

3. Name the male and female gametes in animals. What is fertilization and where does it
take place in human females? 2

4. State the two factors on which the resistance of the conductor depends.
2
OR

A 9Ω resistance is cut into three equal parts and connected in parallel. Find the
equivalent resistance of the combination.

5. A compass needle is placed near a current-carrying wire. State your observation for
the following cases, and give reason for the same in each case. 2
(a) Magnitude of electric current in the wire is increased.

(b) The compass needle is displaced away from the wire.

6. DDT was sprayed in a lake to regulate breeding of mosquitoes. How would it affect the
trophic levels in the following food chain associated with a lake? Justify your answer.

OR

In the following food chain, vertical arrows indicate the energy lost to the
environment and horizontal arrows indicate energy transferred to the next trophic
level. Which one of the three vertical arrows (A, C and E) and which one of the two
horizontal arrows (B and D) will represent more energy transfer? Give reason for your
answer.

7.
2

Label any four parts.

SECTION- B
8. Give reasons for the following. (any three)
3
(a) Element carbon forms compounds mainly by covalent bonding.

(b) Diamond has a high melting point.

(c) Graphite is a good conductor of electricity.

(d) Acetylene burns with a sooty flame

(e) Kerosene does not decolourise bromine water while cooking oils do.
9. (a) How many isomers are possible for the compound with the molecular formula
C4H8? Draw the electron dot structure of branched chain isomer. 3

(b) How will you prove that C4H8 and C5HJo are homologues?

OR

A carbon compound 'A' having melting point 156K and boiling point 351K, with
molecular formula C₂H6O is soluble in water in all proportions.

(a) Identify 'A' and draw its electron dot structure.

(b) Give the molecular formulae of any two homologues of 'A'.

10. Draw a diagram of human male reproductive system and label on it

3
(i) Prostate gland

(ii) Seminal vesicle

(iii) Ureter

11. Two resistors with resistances 5 Ω and 10 Ω are to be connected to a battery of emf
6V so as to obtain : 3

(i) minimum current

(ii) maximum current

(a) How will you connect the resistances in each case?

(b) Calculate the strength of the total current in the circuit in the two cases.

12.
3

In the above circuit, if R1= R2= R3= R4= R5= 3Ω and V= 30 V, then find the equivalent
resistance of circuit and current reading in ammeter A.

OR

Calculate the total resistance of the circuit and find the total current in the circuit.

13. Draw electron dot structures of

3
(i) Ethane
(ii) Ethene
(iii) Ethanoic acid
SECTION- C
14. Read the following and answer any four questions.
4
Pesticides are sprayed to kill pests food plants. The food plants are eaten by
herbivores and along with the food, pesticides are also eaten by the herbivores.
Herbivores are further eaten by carnivores and along with the herbivores, pesticides
also enter the body of the carnivore. Humans cat both plants and animals and
pesticide along with food enters the body of humans.

(a) Use of pesticide DDT is discouraged since this chemical is found in human body.
How does this chemical enter our body?

(b) Why are bacteria and fungi called decomposers?

(c) What will happen if we kill all the organisms in one trophic level?

(d) Construct an aquatic food chain showing four trophic levels.

(e) Name two decomposers operating in our ecosystem.

15. Answer any four questions based on two tables related to equivalent resistance.
4

(a) Which student measured the wrong equivalent resistance in table B?

(b) Which physical quantity that will remain same across the combination of 3 ohm
and 6 ohm in circuit-I and combination of 6 ohm along with the combination of 1 ohm
and 4 ohm in circuit-II.

(c) If both students connected their respective circuits through an external source, can
they measure the current in the circuit?

(d) In an electrical circuit, two resistor of 2 2 and 4 2 respectively are connected in

series to a 6 V battery. Calculate what amount of heat will be dissipated by the 42
resistor in 5 seconds.

(e) What minimum resistance can be obtained by using five resistors each of 1/5 Ω?
