3rd PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE

HE 11 A

If there is one part of the school year that strikes fear into the heart of any teacher– it is when the teacher will
meet the parents of the students – the parent-teacher conference time. Teachers will share some memorable stories
about students and make conversations with their parents. Nevertheless, parent-teacher conference is a wonderful
opportunity to extend lines of communication between home and school, keep parents informed about their student’s
progress – both academic and social – and for developing cooperative strategies that can ultimately benefit every
student. Productive and successful conferences take careful planning and this is how the grade 11 teachers of
Inosloban-Marawoy Integrated National High School went through: The before, during, and after parent-teacher
conference (PTC).

Before the Conference

The adviser sent messages informing that there will be a ptc on February 18, 2023 through chat, text messages
and phone call to confirm the day and time of the conference and invite them to bring a list of questions, issues and
concerns. The teacher also reviewed notes on each student’s behavior and academic progress.

During the Conference

The PTC was called to order at exactly 8:00 in the morning. It started with a prayer and was attended by the
parents and guardians of the students. To formally open the meeting, the teacher gave some discussion on the mission
and vison of the school.

The agendas discussed in the meeting are the following:

 Reiteration of School Rules
 Use of Footbridge
 Canteen Rules
 Performance Indicators
 SPTA updates
 Reduction of Drop-out rate
 Classroom issues and concerns (HE polo-shirt, suggested amount Php 300-Php350)
 Awaring of Perfect Attendance and honors
 Card Giving

The teacher also reiterated the guidelines on the prevention of covid 19 and other infectious diseases and the statement
of expectation and agreement with parents.

After the Conference

The teacher saved few minutes after the conference to jot down a couple notes. This time the teacher has
recorded observations, perceptions and suggestions on a narrative report. This includes the number of parents who
attended, percentage attendance of both male and female and percentage of attendance of the whole class, screenshots
of pictures and some concerns of the parents in the open forum. They filed it for later reference. The task does not
ends here, the adviser made sure that they follow up (as necessary) with phone calls, notes, messages, chats or letters
to every parent, including those who didn't attend. Immediate feedback is necessary to ensure parent cooperation and
participation in any shared solutions. Finally, the teacher will need time to gather thoughts, regroup, and get ready for
