Simple & Compound Sentences

1. Simple Sentence = one independent clause


Ex: The cow jumps over the moon.
2. Compound Sentence = two or more independent clauses joined by conjunction(s)
Independent clauses may be joined by a semicolon (used alone or with a transition).
Ex: The cow jumps over the moon, and the fork ran away with the spoon.

Directions: Label the following sentences as simple or compound

Simple 1. Gina and Rick will conduct the experiment in chemistry class today.
Compound 2. Sara worked last summer and saved enough money for a computer.
compound 3. The entire crowd waited and quietly, and Niki walked to the line and
made thefree throw.
compound 4. The delivery person arrived late, but the pizza was still warm.
compound 5. The people in the home stands threw paper onto the floor;
consequently, the referee called a foul on the home team.
simple 6. Mrs. Levinson assigned a difficult paper.
compound 7. Jack is on the yearbook staff this year; he won’t be writing for the
newspaper.
compound 8. The students were waiting outside school, and it was raining a lot.
simple 9. The next plane leaves at 10
simple 10. I hope to catch up on my reading during spring break.

Simple sentences:
1-we are a united family
2-the dog does not get tired of playing
3-they painted the wall red
4-juan will come tomorrow morning
5-luis´s cousin went out to dance
Compound sentences:
1-Gabriel has a tea, Maria a beer
2-yesterday I met my friend, the one I told you about the other time
3-when I get to your house, send me a text
4-failure is not an option, as long as you have recourse
5-pedro bought vegetables and decided to make
