METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methodology of the study. It covers the research design,
participants and locale of the study, sampling technique, data gathering methods,
procedure, and ethical considerations.

Research Design

The research design pertains to the overall method you adopt to combine the
various aspects of your investigation in a coherent and logical manner, assuring that you
will successfully solve the research issue; it serves as the blueprint for data collecting,
measurement, and analysis. Moreover, the research design's function is to guarantee that
the evidence gained allows you to address the research topic as clearly as feasible
(Lechtenberg, 2020).

The current research study will utilize a narrative research design. According to
Harappa (2021), narrative research design can reveal actions, feelings, and intentions that
are not explicitly expressed. It also gives a wealth of linguistic data that might shed light
on a variety of cultural or social phenomena. Thus this type of design is suitable for this
study. It will give the researchers specific information about the causes and consequences
of inactive classroom participation among grade 12 students.

Participants of the Study

This study will use purposive sampling in selecting the participants. The
participants of this study will be 5 males and 5 females, a total of 10 grade 12 students of
Maximo T. Hernandez Memorial Integrated High School in the school year 2022-2023.

Locale of the Study

This study will be conducted at Barangay Malainin, Ibaan, Batangas specifically at

Maximo T. Hernandez Memorial Integrated High School in the school year 2022-2023.

Sampling Technique
In this study, purposive sampling under non-probability sampling will be used in
determining the sample suitable for the study. According to Nikolopoulou (2022),
purposive sampling is a non-probability sampling strategy in which units are chosen
because they possess traits that are required in the sample. In other words, in purposive
sampling, units are chosen "on purpose." This sampling strategy, also known as
judgemental sampling, focuses on the researcher's judgment when finding and selecting
individuals, cases, or events that can provide the greatest information to accomplish the
study's objectives.

Data Gathering Methods

Data gathering methods are approaches and methods employed for collecting
information for research objectives. In this study, face-to-face interviews will be done to
gather data from the respondents. In face-to-face interviews, the interviewer asks the
interviewee a variety of inquiries in person and takes notes on their answers (Bhat, 2019).

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will create a letter of approval to conduct the study. Then
interview questions will be made by the researchers and will be validated by the research
adviser to start the data collection. After validation, the researchers will start doing
interviews. 10 (5 male and 5 female) random grade 12 students will be asked to be the
study’s respondents. Upon confirmation, the researchers will explain the content and
purpose of the interview to the respondents. After collecting the needed data, it will be
summarized and analyzed in connection with the study’s objectives.

Ethical Considerations

In conducting this study, the researchers will inform the respondents orally of the
goal of the research, their right to refuse to participate, the bounds of confidentiality of
this study, and their access to a copy of the study's results if they so choose. The
respondents will sign a consent form as confirmation of their willingness to cooperate
and that they are not being pressured in any way. Furthermore, all required citations and
quotations are properly followed and respected to avoid plagiarism, which is an ethical
concern.
