Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of Southeast Asian literature as


mirror to shared heritage; coping strategies in processing textual information; strategies in
examining features of a listening and viewing material; structural analysis of words and propaganda
techniques; and grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis.
Performance Standard: The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive
speech based on an informative essay featuring use of properly acknowledged information
sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate
prosodic features, stance, and behavior.
Learning Competency: Determine the relevance and worth of ideas presented in the material
viewed. (EN8WC-)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
a. Identify the three essential elements of a short story;
b. Demonstrate understanding of the video presentation through answering the
questions; and
c. Appraise the value of elements of a short story through dramatization.

III. Procedure
1. Preliminaries
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Class orderliness

2. Review
 What is literature?
 What is the importance of literature?

3. Motivation
“Puzzle Me!”
 The teacher will divide the class into (3) three groups.
 The teacher will give each group an envelope that contains puzzle
pieces to be arranged and afterwards, they will be going to post it
on the board.
 Each group has an assign representative to give an idea about the
image formed out if the puzzle pieces.
 The teacher will give (3) three minutes to do the activity.

4. Lesson Presentation
 Presentation of objectives and lesson.
 Every story has three essential elements: setting, characterization,
and plot.
Setting
The setting of a story tells the place and time the events of the
story happen.

Characterization
Characterization is generally brought out by (a) describing
what a person looks like, (b) showing what a person does, (c)
revealing what a person thinks about, and (d) relating what a
person says.
Plot
Plot is what happens in a story. It is made up of incidents that
the reader is interested to know. The plot determines what should
go into a story.

A. Activity (Choral Reading of the text “The Wonder Tree”)


a. Pre-Watching/Reading:

Direction: Match the word from Column A to column B to get the meaning of
the given words.

b. While-watching/Reading:
 Students will watch a video presentation of the story “THE WONDER TREE”.
 As they are watching, they need to jot down all the questions that they have
in mind regarding the story.
c. Post-Watching/Reading:
 Who are the characters of the story?
 Where the story takes place?
 Why was the visit of Sheikh Ben Nedi a matter of excitement?
 Why was Zulieka very sad over the coming visit?

B. Analysis:
 How were you able to identify the elements of a short story in the presentations?
 What is the role of elements of a short story?
 If you have given a chance to write a story, what is all about?

C. Abstraction:
 Why elements of a short story are important in creating a story?
 How is it important for us to study and learn about the different elements of a
short story?

D. Application:
“Bring on the Drama!”
 The teacher will divide the class into (3) three groups.
 Each group will portray the story “THE WONDER TREE”.
 The teacher will give (5) five minutes to present.

TOTAL 20 PTS.

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Go back to the story “The Wonder Tree” and identify the elements
of the story.

V. Assignment
Direction: The story (The Wonder Tree) talks about giving and receiving the
best gift. Think of the best gift that you have given or received and write a short
story about it. Make sure it has all the elements of a story.
