Reflection Paper about Anti-Hazing

Hazing is a serious issue that we frequently witness in the society we live in.
Hazing continues to threaten the future of fraternities and sororities. We hear about it
rather frequently, whether it's taking place among a sports team, school, friends, or even
a group of coworkers. These groups often have strong beliefs in rituals, customs, and
ceremonies. These ceremonies typically involve alcohol, which makes it possible for
hazing to occur either intentionally or accidentally. In some instances, students have
normalized forcing other members of their organizations to drink large amounts of
alcohol as a way to bond or build trust.

I believe in the good of fraternity and sorority life. Last day’s orientation I could
write pages about my learnings, but ultimately, I will say, having the opportunity to be
involved in such activity allowed me to grow immensely as myself. I learned a great deal
about each of the other organizations and how they functioned. This also provided me
with lots of opportunities to interact with and learn about how different organizations
functioned and orientated their new members to their group. And if I could have a
chance to have the opportunity to plan an orientation about hazing prevention myself,
which was an event dedicated to spreading awareness of the dangers of hazing and
providing resources on how to stop acts of hazing. In the future if God allow me to fulfill
my duty as a future educator, I will take that opportunity to implement the said
orientation that I would like to happen which is the orientation about hazing prevention.

I am thankful for those who were with me on the journey, my sisters, my fellow
brothers and sisters in school community, and my advisors who guided and lead me to
the right path of my life. Even though there were times of doubt, I continue to believe
that the advantages beat the negative consequences and I believe that the future of
fraternity and sorority life could be affected if acts of hazing do not cease to exist, and
that is why I have the thoughts on the prevention of hazing myself, because I do believe
in the good that can come from going bad.
