Time
(min.) Process Components
2 mins *Anticipatory Set
Check in with how students are at the beginning of class.
Review the plan for the day:
● Notes
● Homework
● Nearpod - Quiz tomorrow
*State the Objectives (grade-level terms)
Students will:
● evaluate composite trigonometric functions
45 *Instructional Input, Modeling, or Procedures
mins Composite Functions:
2
Review how to find inverses algebracally: f(x) = 𝑥, f–1(x) = 𝑥
Define what composite means: Function made of other functions where the output of one is the
input of the other
2
Provide an example with two algebraic functions: f(x) = 𝑥 , g(x) = 2x + 3
2 2
Take the composite them: f(g(x)) = (2𝑥 + 3) ; g(f(x)) = 2𝑥 + 3
Do it with inverses now. Use functions from before.
Take the composite of the function and it’s inverse: f(f--1(x)) = x; f-1(f(x)) = x
NOTE: The inverse of a function undones that functions
Talk about how that might be true when we cover trigonometric inverses and composition
Make a list of the different ways to write trigonometric inverses

Composite - Trig. Inverses

Examples from Homework sheet from Monday: “What did the wealthy Tan Gent say to his sick
aunt when she asked him to Co-sign a loan for a questionable business investment?”
4π 7π
#21 - cos-1(cos(π)), #23 - sin-1(sin( 3 )), #25 - tan-1(tan( 4 ))
Work inside then the outside.
#21 - the final output will be π
#23 & #25 - the final outputs will be in terms of the moon range learned the past couple of days

Homework for Today:

1 5 8
#17 - sin[cos-1(- 2 )], Ex. - tan(cos-1( 13 )), #28 - cos(sin-1( 17 ))
#17 solve normally; have a critical value at -½
Ex. & #28 - Need to create a right angled triangle with the measurements given with the angle
and find the triple associated to those numbers. You can denote the inside of the composite
function as θ and solve like normal.
*Check for Understanding
Asking questions constantly to see if students understand the material; asking them to help me
solve some of the equations, using knowledge they should know from previous units, reference
and using the pythagorean identities.
*Guided Practice
Included in Instructional Input
40 *Independent Practice
mins Homework: Composite Inverse Functions
Nearpod - Review for Quiz tomorrow
McDonald’s Draft (2010). Modified by Kreassig and Gould (2014) for use with student teachers. Revised February 2021

3 mins *Closure
Packing up at 12:02 - can be on their phones and relax
Class ends at 12:05
Differentiation Strategies (e.g. enrichment, accommodations, remediation, learning style, multicultural).

Classroom Management Strategies (To ensure a positive learning environment).

Homework Pass - Get 10 checks on their name for participating in class earns them a Homework Pass they
can submit for the following week. Can only gain checks during instruction time.
Lesson Reflection. To be completed following the lesson. Did your students meet the objective(s)?
What parts of the lesson would you change? Why? (Professor will determine if reflection goes here or
in a written report).
