Course Content

We use the Carnegie Learning workbook and online program. It is broken down into the following units:

 Thinking Proportionally
- Topics include circles, proportionality, and proportional relationships
 Operating with Signed Numbers
- Topics include adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers
 Reasoning Algebraically
- Topics include two-step expressions and equations, and multiple representations of
equations and inequalities
 Analyzing Populations and Probabilities
- Topics include simple and compound probability, and making inferences about populations
 Constructing and Measuring
- Topics include angles, triangles, and three-dimensional figures

Student Responsibilities

 Requirements
- Be on time and prepared to learn
- Be respectful to your peers, teacher, and the learning environment
 Participation
- It is expected that when I set a timer to answer questions individually or in pairs that you are
focused and working (even if you are stuck).
- Participation does not have to be verbal- if you do not feel comfortable sharing answers
during class discussions that is okay. I care more about the fact that you put effort into
coming up with an answer prior to our class discussion.
 If you are absent, I will give you makeup work when you return. Often I will give you time in
class to work on it in case you have questions. If you do not finish it in class, please turn it in
within a week of receiving the work.
 Late work
- Since we go over the answers to homework on its due date, you cannot make up most
homework assignments. I will accept late classwork with no penalty.
 Extra Credit
- Quiz Retakes: You can take a quiz similar to the one you already took. In order to qualify,
you must show proof of studying. Retakes can be done after school, during lunch, or during
study hall.
- Test Corrections: You can correct the questions you got wrong on your test. In order to earn
full credit back, you must give a sentence explaining where you went wrong and a sentence
explaining your new understanding. You must redo the problem, showing your work.

Materials and Access

 Supplies
- A pencil with an eraser
- notebook
- Binder with separators for notes, workbook pages, and assessments
- Charged laptop
 Teams
- Our school uses Microsoft Teams. You have a class page for each subject. To access materials for
my class, go to files and click on the class materials folder.
 Clever
- You can access all apps by logging in through Clever
- We will use Clever for Edcite, Edulastic, Braining Camp, Infinite Campus, and Teams

Grading Method

Tests: 20%

- You will take a total of 5 tests this year (one after each unit). The tests are taken on Edcite.

Quizzes: 20%

- You will have 2-3 quizzes per term after we have covered each topic within a unit.

Classwork: 30%

- Classwork is mostly graded on effort and a productive struggle. Waiting to copy answers off of
the board will not result in full credit. The workbook is broken down into lessons, each with
several activities. The only activities graded for accuracy are “Talk the Talk” activities at the end
of lessons.

Mathia: 20%

- Mathia is the online math program that goes with our workbook. Each unit is broken down into
workspaces. Mathia is graded by the number of workspaces completed, the number of green
workspaces (red means you did not master that workspace), and completion of the vocabulary
on your mathia tracker. You get 90 minutes a week in class to work on mathia, but if you fall
behind, it is your responsibility to make up those workspaces outside of class.

Homework: 10%

- I give homework Monday-Thursday. I only give a few problems a night and homework is graded
on completion. If you do not show your work, you do not receive credit.
