An Independent Publisher challenges a Designer to develop an Editorial Project around the theme/concept
“Manifesto”. The project must result in a Publication and a Flag.
The project should have an analysis phase, research on the topic and other similar or relevant projects,
elaboration of mental, visual maps. The Designer must develop his/her concept/proposal and gather all the
content to develop his/her Editorial Project that can take any physical format that reflects its concept. The flag
must be 100x70cm.
Afterward, the graphic development begins. The Designer will have to analyze and test formats, grids,
typography, colors, art direction, layout, and envision the production details for the Publication (printing, paper,
binding, etc.).
All project components must respect and reflect its concept, target audience and use.
The Designer has to develop and produce prototypes of his proposals. All the prototypes must be realistic.
All Projects will be discussed in the classroom multiple times throughout the unit. Designers must know how to
justify their decisions, articulate a good defense of them and “sell” their idea as it would happen in a
professional environment. At the end of the unit, the Designers will present the entire process until reaching the
final (digital) result and the prototypes of their Publications and Flags.
The student must keep a Project Dossier (digital, A4 portrait format) throughout the unit that must be
constantly updated, with all the paths considered and taken.
Skills Acquired at the End of the Unit:
PHASE 1.
- Briefing Analysis, Positioning, and Target Audience Definition. Concept Development: Deadline:
Research, Analysis, Concept Maps, Conceptual Moodboards. (Ver Plano de
- Development of Resources and Content: Selection and/or Creation of Text and/or Image Aulas)
Contents based on a rigorous assessment of their applicability.
- Project Dossier (A4 portrait, PDF). It must be constantly updated with all the paths
covered, exploring the Project's requirements and restrictions.
- Presentation and Defense of the Editorial Project Concept:
Critical analysis of the Relationship between Concept and Theme given, Publication’s
Contents and Moodboard.
PHASE 2.
- Graphic design development should result from research, analysis, and graphic Deadline:
experimentation processes. Discussion and analysis of the different aspects and roles in (Ver Plano de
developing the Editorial Design Project and preliminary development of the Flag. Aulas)
- Defining the Format, and the graphic production of the Editorial Project, respecting the
constraints inherent to graphic production. Assess the time and resources associated with
Project Development.
- Defining the Layout (Grids, Typography, Art Direction, etc.)
- Project Dossier (A4 portrait, PDF). It must be constantly updated with all the paths
covered, exploring the Project's requirements and restrictions.
- Presentation and defense of the relationship between the Concept and the Graphic
Proposal (Formats, Layout, and Graphic Production); This presentation should encapsulate
the entire Project Development up to this point.
PHASE 3.
- Completion and evaluation of the final Graphic Design proposals in their entirety based on Deadline:
the feedback provided. (Ver Plano de

covered, exploring the Project's requirements and restrictions.
- Presentation and defense of the final Projects, respecting all the constraints inherent to
the Briefing and the feedback provided. This presentation should encapsulate the entire
Project Development up to this point.
PHASE 4.
