Worksheet 6: Think Win-Win

Practice Scenarios

1. At recess four kids usually play tag. One day three of them decide to play football.
The fourth child refuses to play and says they should play tag with him.
a. Describe the problem:
The situation in this scenario is that one boy wants to keep on playing tag while
the other three want to do something different and play football. So now there in
a situation in where they don’t know what to play and if they still decide to play
football then the kid that wants to play tag will not be happy with the choice of
game.

b. Write a win-win solution. If you think there is no win-win solution, explain why not
and what is one solution you could try.

A win-win solution for this scenario is that they can spend have the time playing
football and the other half playing tag. Another solution is that one day they can
do football and the other day tag. So in the end they play both games for all 4
kids to be happy.

2. Four kids are working in groups on a science project. Each child is sharing his/her ideas
about what to do for the experiment. One of the boys in the group feels that the others
are not listening to his suggestions. He starts crying and yelling at the other kids in the
group.
a. Describe the problem:
The problem is that in a science project, the group has started sharing ideas for
what they should do there science project about. But one of the boys feels like no
one is paying attention to his ideas, so he starts to cry.

b. Write a win-win solution. If you think there is no win-win solution, explain why not
and what is one solution you could try.

A win-win solution to this problem is for the other three kids to listen to his
suggestions and ideas. From there they can all decide and make a vote on which
idea they should do the project about. So in the end all ideas are heard and are
able to agree on something so that it’s a win-win for everyone.

3. At indoor recess two kids always want to play games together. Each recess they
always spend several minutes arguing over who is going to have which piece.
a. Describe the problem:
In this problem two kids want to always stick together and play together during
indoor recess. But during each recess they end up fighting for what piece they
want to have in the game.

b. Write a win-win solution. If you think there is no win-win solution, explain why
not and what is one solution you could try.

A win-win solution for this problem is that they take turns in having the piece
that they keep competing for. So in one game one of the kids has the piece and
once that round is over they switch pieces or every day they take turns in
picking so one day one kids picks first and in the other day the second kid picks
first. These two solutions will help so that they stop fighting for pieces and have
the piece they want and it all being a win-win.
