and alarm of carbon monoxide. CO alarms should
comply with I.S. EN50291 – 1:2010/A1:2012
standard. It is the landlord’s responsibility to ensure
detectors are per specification and fully operational

10 Fire Safety Smoke Detector 9V battery smoke detectors are not adequate; a
property should have a suitably located smoke alarm
in the ground floor hallway and each landing of the
stairway. Smoke alarms are to be either mains wired
with battery back-up or 10-year self-contained
battery operated. Smoke alarm must carry CE mark,
comply with I.S. EN 14604:2005 & be installed as
per manufacturer’s instructions. It is the landlord’s
responsibility to ensure detectors are fully
operational. Landlord confirm in writing to
inspections@inspex.ie that alarms are the required
specification and fully operational.
