Most Essential The learner should be able to

Learning  trace the development of the periodic table from observations based on similarities in properties of elements.
Competencies  use the periodic table to predict the chemical behavior of an element
Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the periodic table of elements as an organizing tool to determine the chemical properties of elements
Performance The learner shall be able to identify that valence electrons
Standard determine an atom’s chemical properties, including reactivity and
interpret the arrangement of the periodic table.

IV. Presenting Examples/ instances of the new lesson

(EXPLAIN)
From the activity that you answered who do you think these
people are? Ma’am I think these
people are Scientist.
Very Good!

Okay Class, are you familiar with the periodic table of element?
Yes Ma’am
Now, do you know that these people are related to the
development of the periodic table of elements? Yes, Ma’am/ No, Ma’am
Do you have any idea on what is our topic for today? Ma’am I think, our topic
for today is all about the
contributors of the
development of the
periodic table of
elements.

V. Discussing new concepts and practicing skills #1 (EXPLAIN)

Class, are you excited to our new lesson for today? Yes, Ma’am

Now, I am going to discuss to you the contributors to the

development of the periodic table of elements.

( The teacher will present the presentations)

(One student will read the

powerpoint )

JOHANN DOBEREINER-
1817

German chemist who

formed the triads of
elements
Explanation:

In 1829, Johann Döbereiner recognised triads of elements with

chemically similar properties, such as lithium, sodium and potassium,
and showed that the properties of the middle element could be
predicted from the properties of the other two.

(One student will read the

powerpoint )

JOHN NEWLANDS-
1863

An English chemist
proposed the low of
Octaves.
Explanation:

British chemist John Newlands was the first to arrange the elements
into a periodic table with increasing order of atomic masses. He found
that every eight elements had similar properties and called this the law
of octaves. He arranged the elements in eight groups but left no gaps
for undiscovered elements.

Explanation:
(One student will read
The periodic law was developed independently by Dmitri Mendeleev the powerpoint )
and Lothar Meyer in 1869. Mendeleev created the first periodic table
and was shortly followed by Meyer. They both arranged the elements DMITRI
by their mass and proposed that certain properties periodically reoccur. MENDELEEV AND
LOTHAR MEYER

Both arranged the

elements in order of
increasing atomic mass
while putting in groups
those with similar
properties
Explanation:
Moseley's contribution to the periodic table was that he arranged the (One student will read

VI. Discussing new concepts and practicing skills #2

(EXPLORE)

“To further understand the contributors of the development of

the periodic table, we’ll be doing a group activity titled as
“BRING BACK TIME”. This will be the group one, two and
three.
Can someone please read the directions?

the directions)

Directions: Make a

contributors in the
development of the
periodic table.
