‘SPECTION
Carefully examine the relay and case to see that no damage has occurred
during transit. Check that the relay serial number on the casey cradle and
cover are identical and that the model number and rating information ts
correct.
2 WIR
Check that the external wiring ts correct to the relevant relay diagram and
schene diagram. The relay diagram number appears inside the case.
13 INSULATION
Isolate all wiring from carth and test the insulation of the external wiring
with an electronic megger or brushless insulation tester at a D.C. voltage
not exceeding 1000V. Terminals of the same circuft should first be
temporarily strapped together. Replace any deliberate earth connect tons
removed for this test.
14 EARTHING
Ensure that the case earthing connection 1s used to connect the relay to the
Jocal earth bar.

2.2 PRIMARY INJECTION
2.2.1 C.T. Ratio Test (Fig. 1)
Inject current into the primary of the A phase C.T. and measure the current
in the secondary winding. Repeat the test for 8 & C phases. Record
results.
2.2.2 C.T, Magnetisation Test (Fig. 2)
The magnetisation curve of all C.T.'s should be checked at the minimum
number of points necessary to identify the C.T. and to determine its
suitability for the intended use,
A.08.86 QENG2.2.3. C.T. Polarity Test (Flick Test Fig. 3)
This test is carried out to confirm that the primary and secondary polarity
markings are correct.
Procedure - On closing the switch the primary winding 1s energised and the
millianmeter should give a positive flick and when the primary winding is
de-energised by opening the switch, the milliammeter should give a negative
flick.
2.2.4 Phasing Out Tests (Figs. 4a and 4b)
Inject current into the primary of the A phase CT, refer to Fig. 4a. For
correct phasing the current reading of the A phase and neutral ammeters will
be the same with negligible current in the 8 & C phase anmeters. Repeat
test for B & C phases.
Inject primary current across A & B phases with a primary short across these
phases on the other side of the CT, refer to Fig. 4b for correct phasing
the current reading of the A & B phase ammeters will be the same, with
negligible current in the C phase and neutral ammeters.
Repeat the above test by injecting across B & C and C & A phase in turn.
Phasing out using LOAD CURRENT
WARNING - USE OF MPB TEST PLUG
BEFORE INSERTING THE MPB TEST PLUG THE CONNECTIONS FOR THE AMMETERS MUST BE
MADE AS SHOWN, OTHERWISE THE CT WILL BECOME OPEN CIRCUITED AND THE HIGH
VOLTAGE PRODUCED MAY BE LETHAL AND COULD DAMAGE INSULATION.
MPB TEST PLUG

AOR. (ENGA nore convenient method of phasing out is by using the primary load
current. For correct phasing, the A, B & C phase currents will be the same,
with negligible current flowing in the neutral ammeter. If one CT was
reversed then approximately twice phase current will appear in the neutral
ammeter.
2.3 SECONDARY INJECTION
2.3.1 Pilot Loop Resistance
Short out the pilot at the remote end of the line at the relay terminals and
measure the pilot loop resistance at the local end of the line at the relay
terminals using a digital voltmeter.
Resistance of 7.029 pilots - 0,5 ohms/100 yds
Maximum loop resistance - 1000 ohms
Maximum intercore capacitor - 3 microfarods

MPB TEST PLUG WITH EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS FOR A-N THROUGH LOAD CHECK
With the cfrcuft breakers open at both ends of the feeder, insert the MPB
test plugs (with external connections as shown above) into the relays at
both ends of the feeder. Close the circuit breakers at both ends, this
allows A phase current only to circulate through the relays. With A phase
current circulating check the following:~
(a Record the primary load current
0) With the pflots NORMAL the relay restrains
co) Record for future reference the pilot voltage and current
@ With the pflots crossed the pilot current should be seen to
increase and the relay should operate
If the load current during the test 1s very small and the relay still fafls
to operate with the pilots crossed the table below 1s given for guidance and
shows typical pilot currents and voltages to be expected for varfous load
currents for "NORMAL" and "CROSSED" pilots.

2.5 CHECK TRIP CIRCUIT
2.5.1 With the primary load current flowing fn the feeder and the pilots
CORRECT, the relay should be restraining. Operate the disc manually using
an insulated tool, a trip should be initiated and the circuit breaker should
open. Reclose the circuit breaker after the test.
Repeat the above procedure at the other end of the feeder.
