TEAM BUILDING – SAFETY PROCEDURES

This activity is carried out under the rules and guidance of Morfa Bay Adventure session plan

Qualifications of instructors
This is an in-house assessment through Morfa Bay Adventure. A certificate of competence is issued
by the head instructor.
It is also mandatory for the instructor to hold a current First Aid Certificate.

Instructor ratio
A ratio of up to 24 participants to 1 instructor on the basis of an assistant being present

Location
This activity takes place within the confines of Morfa Bay (field area & other on-site zones)

Equipment Minimum Standards


Team Building Equipment All equipment used must be in safe working order i.e. no splinters, splits
Checked on a regular basis and stored neatly in team building shelter

Checks to be carried out before the activity


1. Check the number in the group and enquire about any medical problems
2. Check the condition of equipment to ensure that there is no sign of damage. All damaged
equipment to be removed and reported
until repairs if necessary have been carried out
3. Check that all participants have suitable clothing and footwear.
4. First Aid Kit to be close at hand.

Checks to be carried out after the activity.


1. Check for any damage to the equipment..
2. All defects should be reported to the senior member of staff and recorded in logbook. All
damaged equipment must be withdrawn until repaired or replaced if necessary
3. Any item used from the First Aid Kit must be replaced.
4. Ensure that all the equipment is placed in a secure location.

Protective clothing
Normal outdoor clothing should be worn. Footwear can be trainers or boots with a reasonable tread to
offer a firm footing.

Safety guidelines
For the instructor

1. Ensure that the participants are fully supervised at all times


2. Ensure that the participants are fully aware of all the possible hazards within the activity
space
3. All equipment must be locked away following each and every session.
4. Set out the boundaries and stay within that area at all times.

For the participant


1. An instructor will always be present for this activity. For your own safety and that of others,
always obey the instruction.
2. Clear the equipment away on completion of the session.
3. Check in sheet to be filled in following session
