Prompts for target market research

Step 1: Define overall target market (Chat GPT or similar)

(NB: That is what Chat GPT is not very good at)

“I am going to send you a list of products or services, please create a statement that describes the overall
target market without using any qualifiers or limitations. Your answer should consider all potential buyers,
whether or not they are currently aware of or interested in the product.
Please focus on the general population that could potentially benefit from or might be attracted by the
product irrespective of their current interest or awareness of the product.”

Ex with Running shoes: “everybody who walks or runs”

(That’s the type of answer that should come back. If answers focuses on or mentions people ‘interested
in’, it’s not wide enough)

Step 2: Subdividing target market (stimulate ideas) - Chat GPT or similar

1/ “This is my overall target market, what I would like you to do is to subdivide this target market into
smaller tighter psychological niches that I could create individual campaigns for.”

2/ “Which of these markets do you think creates the larger economic opportunity for me”?

Step 3: Generating image of the person representing that niche (Mid Journey or similar)

Describe that person the best we can. Give them a name.

Nb: use emotional descriptive words, not at all related to our product but about who they are, what they
might be thinking about, worrying about, what emotions they might experiencing.

To Mid journey or other graphic design tool:

“I would like you to create me a photorealistic image of a person that (insert description of ideal target
market)”

Step 4: Proceed to write your marketing TO THAT PERSON !

Note: Remember we can ask Chat GPT to help us design prompts. Tell chat GPT what you want to
achieve and ask “can you help me write a prompt that will do that for me?”
