ABSTRACT
The issue of pollution is not new; it has long been one of the biggest issues. It
will take more time than we can imagine, as well as more than just regulations
and programs, to fully resolve in the coming years. One aspect of pollution that
will never change is how it affects us and the harm it does; it has been having a
detrimental impact on us for so long in so many ways that we can't even begin
to imagine it. This essay investigates how different types of pollution impact
biodiversity, whether it be in the form of people, plants, or financial markets.
INTRODUCTION
Pollution is the world's largest environmental cause of disease and premature death. It is responsible
for an estimated 9 million deaths per year—16% of all deaths worldwide— three times more deaths
than AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined (Landrigan et al., 2017).
Air pollution is becoming a major health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. The
World Health Organization estimates that every year, 2.4 million people die because of the effects of
air pollution on health. When coal, gasoline, diesel fuel, and wood are burned, particulate matter
(PM), which is a mixture of solid and liquid particles suspended into the environment. Vehicles and
coal-fuelled power plants are all said to contribute to the creation of PM in urban areas. The size,
composition, level, and length of exposure to PM, as well as the exposed person's gender, age, and
sensitivity, all affect how the PM may affect their health. Exposure symptoms can include a
persistent cough, a painful throat, burning eyes, and heaviness in the chest. Additionally, PM can
cause asthma attacks or even cause people to pass away too soon, especially if they are elderly and
already ill.
