Spearfish High School Band Lettering Information

General
 Student must earn 12 points to receive a letter in music.
 After receiving the initial letter, students receive a bar for every additional 9
points earned.
 Band and choir points are combined for students who participate in both
classes.
 Points toward a letter or bars are accumulated throughout the student’s high
school career.
Band Points
 Band Concerts
o Winter Concert – 1 point
o Pops Concert – 0.5 point
o Spring Concert – 1 point
 All State Band/Orchestra
o Audition – 1 point
o Selected – 1 point
 Solo/Ensemble Contest
o Duet/Trio/Ensemble – 0.5 point per entry
o Solo – 1 point
 Basketball Games
o Attend the required games – 1 point
o Attend required games plus 2 extra games – 1.5 points
o Attend all games – 2 points
 Marching Band Practices
o Attend all practices – 2 points
Miss 1-2 practices – 1.5 points
o Miss 3-4 practices – 1 point
 Extracurricular Ensembles
o Musical pit – 0.5 point
o Winter drumline – 0.5 point
o Jazz band – 1 point
