San Diego State University

San Diego State University is located in Mission Valley, California. SDSU's campus

is within a 15-minute drive of downtown San Diego, the Pacific Ocean, and the mountains.

The application fee to join this university is $70, through 2021-2022 tho if you are located in

the state the tuition cost annually to attend is $8,136 and if not, you get to pay $20,016. For

the students that have a room and board on campus, pay $19,330. And if they remain off

campus, they'll pay $15,375. Housing costs $12,824, meals is $6,344, other kinds of living

expenses are $2,927, and books/supplies are $1,091. If you add all of these, you have $23,348

in total to pay if you are on SDSU grounds. Paying for the amount of money for housing is

important. For example, the amount of money you would pay is $15,375 with $3,654 of other

living expenses. In addition with books and supplies it will cost you around $1,091 which

will give you a total of $20,120. The financial aid offered by SDSU for having grant or

scholarship aid is 60%, and the average amount is $8,368. Having federal grants is 25% and

$5,381, Pell grants 25% and $4,889, and including other federal grants is 7% and $1,214.

Many SDSU freshman students obtain about 47.0% of financial aid, most in the form of

scholarships and grants.

Along with a GPA of 3.77, SDSU requires you to be above average in your high

school class. So, you'll need at least a mix of A's and B's, with more A's than B's. This

university uses a 4.0 grade point system, which means faculty members use all grades from A
Codorniz and Enriquez 2

through F to distinguish among levels of academic accomplishment. The grade for average

undergraduate achievements is C. So you’ll need to work hard and try your very best in high

school in order to join the SDSU community. To get accepted, there is a required GPA you

must have in high school. The first requirement is your unweighted GPA, which calculates

your overall average grade out of 4.0. Another requirement is your weighted GPA, which

reflects both grades and course levels. Taking the SAT and ACT exams prior to applying to

SDSU is important because most schools require them, and many require the SAT subject

tests. So in order to get into this amazing university, you must take these exams. Furthermore,

if your scores for exams are either a 1310 SAT or a 29 ACT or above, you'll have a very

strong chance of getting in.

The most popular majors and academics to join SDSU are mathematics, mechanical

engineering, criminal justice, criminology, English, and science. Also, SDSU offers PhD

programs and all doctoral degrees are offered on the campus like biology and chemistry. And

the retention rate with 89.0% of students staying for the second year, SDSU is one of the best

in the country when it comes to freshman retention. In addition, San Diego State's admissions

are competitive as their acceptance rate is 37%, and the graduation rate is about 76% of

students. SDSU students go on to earn a starting salary of $37,700.

In SDSU, the football team was part of the highest level of American collegiate

football, and the Football Bowl Subdivision of Division I. SDSU is 10–9 all-time in

post-season bowl games. The mascot they have in this university is the Aztec warrior. They

chose it because after about 30 years of having unofficial mascots, SDSU's study body voted

to adopt the Aztec moniker. This was done in conjunction with plans to move to a new
Codorniz and Enriquez 3

campus and change the school paper's name to "The Aztec.” Ellen Ochoa was in fact San

Diego State University alumna, and is a veteran NASA astronaut. She was the first Hispanic

woman to go to space and is the former director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston,

Texas. While many universities provide different activities like playing sports, hosting trivia

nights, and more, SDSU provides fun on-campus parties, movies, and social events for all

new and returning students, including welcome back dances, arrivals for freshman, etc. Some

historical facts about SDSU is that Pettifer & Hupt were selected as the construction firm, and

they completed several buildings by September 1930. Also on March 13, 1987, Governor

Budd changed course and signed legislation appropriating $50,000 to allow for the

establishment of a state normal school in San Diego, to be in University Heights. In addition,

since its founding in 1897, the university has grown to become a leading public research

university, and a federally designated Hispanic-serving Institution as well as an Asian

American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution aka (AANAPISI).

Not only does this university have some historical facts but it also has some fun facts. SDSU

has been known as a “party school” for decades, and its reputation was even mentioned in a

2003 episode of “The Simpsons.” As well, it was founded in 1897 and in fall of 2021, SDSU

had around 400,000 alumni with 35,732 students and 6,890 faculty and staff members.

Besides, about 54 percent of students are of color, which means that the university is

recognized for their military and veteran program, and they are ranked a top college for

LGBTQ students.

In conclusion, our opinion on San Diego State University is that it’s in truth a good

University due to the high graduation rates, and more. This school can most likely assure you

to graduate and help you obtain a good maintainable job, and an outstanding future. But not
Codorniz and Enriquez 4

only does this University help with jobs, it may also lead you to a good education, growth

and commitment to teaching, research and creativity, with the intention of transforming the

lives of many students and engaging in our communities. SDSU strengthens communities on

campus and in the binational region that had a lasting impact around the world through the

work of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The community is committed to student success,

advancing research and creative endeavors, and contributing to the community that will

award you with good student and leadership opportunities because SDSU proudly embraces

the principles of responsible environmental stewardship.
