DEFINITION
• Starts from the day of conception till two
years of age.

Pregnancy = 9 months
= 280 days

Birth to 2 years of life = 2* 360 days


= 720 days
Total = 280 days+ 720
days.
=1000 days.
Why 1st thousand days nutrition is important?
•Child’s most of the growth and development occurs during this period.

•Greatest impact on future health and potential , if starting is good then end
will be better.
PREGNANCY

•Eating good food during pregnancy is


important for both mother and the baby.

•No need of special diet.


WHAT TO EAT?

•Well balanced diet (fruit+


vegetables + whole grains
+carbohydrates + protein rich food
or dairy products.)

• Supplements like – iron ,folic acid,


calcium and vitamin D.
