Chaplaincy Newsletter –10th March 2023

Be strong in the Lord and

in his mighty power.
Ephesians 6:10

Working at it

A person who buys a gym membership but never goes isn’t going to get fit! A
person who does breathing exercises once isn’t going to find that anxiety has
gone for good. Drinking one glass of water a day won’t keep you hydrated; you
need to drink regularly. Lent is a reminder that like all of these examples we
need to work at our Spiritual health in order to gain long term spiritual health
benefits.

What have you been working on recently?

Spirituality and faith can be useful ‘protective factors’ to support wellbeing in

our lives. My faith in a God who loves me unconditionally is a huge source of
strength. My faith gives me tools in my toolkit for managing stress. Prayer
gives me a way of offloading my worries and I find the Bible teachings help by
giving good advice such as how to avoid debt, build positive relationships and
find contentment, meaning and purpose in my life.

What are your protective factors and how do they help?

In order to get the benefits of Spiritual health it needs some investment. We

discussed last week about building positive habits. If you know that going out
into nature makes you feel better, then make sure you take the opportunity to
do that as often as possible. If you find meditation helpful, build it into your
daily routine. If you like singing, find a group to join and nurture your talent.

How are you going to invest some time into your spiritual health this week?

Working at it!

There may be other aspects of your life that you would like to work at such
family and relationships, maintaining a healthy weight, managing finances or
getting more active. There are many organisations in the area that offer
support and advice. The Copeland Wellness Service can make referrals and
explain some of the choices available to you.
