1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE RF TRANSMITTER

The RF remote control system consists of a RF transmitter and a RF receiver module,
mounted into the vehicle. This transmitter is used to transmit information for locking or
unlocking the vehicle by unidirectional RF transmission. For standard remote
operation, which is provided by the "Remote Key"(RK) one of the 5 buttons have to be
pressed. For the so called "passive access" function of the so-called "Passive
Key"(PK), the key receives a magnetic 125kHz trigger command to send the locking /
unlocking and start information to the vehicle by the same RF transmission.
The RF-transmission is Manchester coded with FSK modulation and send twice on
two different channels within the same band.
Additionally a separate transponder for the immobilizer function is inserted in the
nozzle, working with a bidirectional magnetic 125-135kHz carrier.

In general the following functions are provided:

- Lock the car

- Unlock the car
- Approach light/ Car-Locator button
- Unlock the trunk lid
- Panic alarm
- Immobilizer

2. Power supply
The transmitter is provided with 1 lithium battery (CR2450) that gives a power supply
of +3V.

3. BUTTONS
The buttons are use to trigger some functions depending of the software which is
running with the transmitter. There are two different software: one is the application
software and is used for the final product. The other is test software and it is used only
in the development phase or for the homologation procedure.

3.1 Application mode

There are five buttons with following functions:

Circuit description:

The Key devices content 5 buttons, 1 battery CR2450, the RF-Stage, the central
processor and in case of the PK the LF-receiving coils. The central elements of the
transmitters are the IC PCF 7952 from Philips or µPD789862 from NEC respectively,
and the PLL-RF-Transmitter AS3977 from AustriaMicroSystems.

The µ-Controller PCF 7953 (ACTIC PRO X)

The PCF7953 is a high performance single chip Security Transponder and
RISC Controller, ideally suited for automotive applications with combined vehicle
Immobilization and Keyless Entry functions. In case of Keyless Entry applications,
rolling code generation may be accomplished by the application program and the
hardwired Calculation Unit. The Calculation Unit may operate in standard HITAG2 (48
bit Shift Register) or Enhanced mode (64 bit Shift Register). In case of the passive
access function, the inductive front end, which is integrated inside the processor chip,

evaluates the incoming LF-trigger telegrams to match with the stored car-individual
pattern. The device timing is derived from an on-chip low tolerance RC oscillator, that
provides a programmable system clock, with a frequency up to 2 MHz. The system
clock may also be derived from the PLL transmitter device, which generates the clock
signal out of a 16MHz quartz oscillator. The device is powered by a single Lithium
battery CR2450.
The PCF7953 incorporates an advanced power management that supports a
programmable battery voltage measurement. For increased battery lifetime the device
quiescent current is minimized in POWER-OFF state by disconnecting the battery from
most of the internal circuitries.

The PLL-RF-Transmitter AS3977 for both PK and RK transmitter.

The AS3977 is a low-power fully integrated FSK/ASK small bandwidth
transmitter capable of operating in the 426MHz, 434MHz, 447MHz and 868MHz, ISM
frequency bands complying with FCC, ETSI and ARIB standards. It is based on delta-
sigma controlled fractional-N synthesizer phase locked loop (PLL) with fully integrated
voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The power amplifier (PA) output is programmable
and can deliver a power ranging from -20dBm up to +8dBm. It includes automatic
antenna tuning to avoid manual tuning in production. An on-chip low drop-out regulator
(LDO) is available in case an accurate output power independent of voltage supply is
required. The transmitter data can be shaped using a programmable Gaussian filter to
minimize the occupied bandwidth and adjacent channel power. The maximum data
rate can be up to 100kb/s – depending on the required filtering.
The FSK frequency deviation is programmable up to a maximum 64KHz.
The crystal oscillator can handle a wide range of frequencies. For narrow-band
applications a temperature sensor with digital read-out is included that allows
compensation of the crystal drift due to temperature.
