2 factors influencing contemporary societal relationships with outdoor environments,

including: portrayals of outdoor environments and outdoor experiences in the media,
music, art, writing and advertising.
In today’s world we are subject to many different influences that help shape our
relationship with the outdoor environment. This can start at a young age with our parents
being the main way in which we are influenced but as we get older, we start to have our
own views, and these are shaped via media, music, art, and advertising.
The outdoor environment can be portrayed in a variety of ways some in which are:
- Adversary (challenge)
- Adversary (threat / fear)
- Gymnasium
- Cathedral
- Museum
- Resource
- Playground

When analysing the image, media, or lyrics you will need to explain the portrayal, then
explain the perception the interaction and impact.

Example of portrayal: the image of the rock climber climbing the cliff face portrays the
environment as an adversary, where the environment is setting a physical challenge for the
participation to overcome.

Go pro vid.
The whole vid is portrayed as an adventure, playground for people to do challenging things
with friends and family the environment is used as a place to bond with loved ones.
